How to include a large number of children in ceremony?!?!

I am 19 years old, and getting married on September 20th of this year. Kids are and always have been a huge part of my life. I have been trying, with no success, to figure out how to include the children in both of our families in the ceremony. I am out of ideas. We are having an outdoor ceremony...

I am 19 years old, and getting married on September 20th of this year. Kids are and always have been a huge part of my life. I have been trying, with no success, to figure out how to include the children in both of our families in the ceremony. I am out of ideas. We are having an outdoor ceremony (if bad weather it will be in a large barn) Here are the ages ( as of wedding date) that i want to include.

7 month old girl (mom is MOH)

16 month old girl (mom is a bridesmaid, dad the best man)

2 year old boy (FH nephew)

3 year old by (my nephew)

4 year old boy (FH nephew)

5 year old girl (my cousin, twin)

5 year old boy (my cousin, twin)

6 year old boy (my nephew. Has autism)

8 year old girl (my niece)

11 year old girl (my cousin)

15 year old girl (friend, calls me her big sister, possibly an honorary bridesmaid? or flower girl helper?)

15 year old girl (my cousin, has aspergurgers, doesnt do well with large crowds..)

17 year old girl (my cousin, possibly bridesmaid...)

I thought the "Golden Rule" was "do unto others as you would have them do unto you." In that regard, I would rather have people tell me their true perspective than to just go along with whatever I say just because I said so. I appreciate and value a genuine opinion more than a false one.

I remember one of my first WW posts just broke my little heart into. I wanted my bridesmaids to wear these BOMB.COM $300 rhinestone shoes...I was just CONVINCED that this was it...I gleefully posted it just waiting for everyone to tell me how AWESOME I am...My post got RIPPED to shreds...

At first I was all "deees hatin azzz bishes"...

But then, I really took the time to read through the varying opinions, I talked to my coworkers about it, I realized that my idea was a little ridiculous and that people made valid points. It wasn't what I wanted to hear at the time, but it was honest opinions.

People up here, and I am not calling you out in particular, have been getting real testy about other people posting their thoughts. I love WW for the diversity of opinions and not just because it's a bunch of folks waiting around to rah-rah all my wedding ideas.

At the end of the day, it's your wedding and if you want to invite the entire girl and boy scouts of America to walk you down the aisle, that is your perogative. These are just suggestions...Weed through them, amongst the bad suggestions, there will be at least 2 awesome suggestions. Good luck with everything, I am sure it will be beautiful and special no matter what you decide.

I know this is isn't what you want to hear, but that is way too many children to be in the ceremony. Your wedding is about marrying your fiance. It isn't about showcasing the kids. The focus should be on the bride and groom. The kids will be involved enough by attending. There is no reason to give them special roles.

Riki, that was really well said. And it needed to be said.

OP, whenever someone posts that she wants to wear a camo wedding dress, everyone tells her that this is a terrible idea. She gets mad. There is a reason why. Camo makes for a terrible wedding dress. It always will. This is not an opinion- this is a fact.

Please really think about why all these people are telling you the exact same thing.

    I agree with Riki.

We have 80% of posts on this thread saying you probably shouldn't put 13 children under 17 (can't believe I even have to type this) in your wedding ceremony, yet the original poster just doesn't want to hear it.

    well how about this?

Why dont you have all the girls, including the 7 month old, be bridesmaids and all the boys be groomsmen. I think that will work out really well.

It's not a daycare center hon, it's a wedding. If you have that many in your party I guarantee that guests will get bored at how long the processional is going to take. Make them guests and call it a day.

I'm in the same boat with you and I have come up with some roles. We're of course doing flower girls and ring bearers. I'm also having some "bride announcers" that will wear signs that say "Uncle Jamail" "Here Comes" "Your Bride" "No Turning Back Now." That will help account for some of them. We're also doing Junior Bride/Groom, and Mini Bride/Groom for the little bitty ones.

Wait...you are 19 and calling a 17 year old a kid? She is only 2 years younger than you.

17 year old can be a bridesmaid, teenagers can be ushers or jr bridesmaids/groomsmen. Younger kids can be ring bearers, flower girls, or carry signs. I don't even know if a 7 month old could ride in a wagon

People she didnt post asking if it was a good idea, her mind is made up and shes asking HOW to do it. Quit being bitchy.

    Here are some ideas:

7 month old girl (mom is MOH) - Wear cute outfit and can be carried in by the MOH and then passed to a family member who is seated during the ceremony.

16 month old girl (mom is a bridesmaid, dad the best man) - Can be carried in by dad and passed to relative as well

2 year old boy (FH nephew)/3 year old by (my nephew) - The two younger boys can be a little matching group of ring bearers

4 year old boy (FH nephew) Little Flower girl Escort

5 year old girl (my cousin, twin) Flower girl

5 year old boy (my cousin, twin) Flower girl

6 year old boy (my nephew. Has autism) He could ring the bells? that could be an easy job for him and fun!

8 year old girl (my niece) Jr bmaid

11 year old girl (my cousin) jr bmaid

15 year old girl (friend, calls me her big sister, possibly an honorary bridesmaid? or flower girl helper?) I dont like honorary bridesmaid bc its almost like saying shes not as important, but she can do a short reading or just be regular bmaid

15 year old girl (my cousin, has aspergurgers, doesnt do well with large crowds..) Gifts Table or Guest Book Attendant, or pass out programs/schedules if you are having them

17 year old girl (my cousin, possibly bridesmaid...) Bmaid or she can do a short reading as well.

If any of them play any instruments you could have them perform a little piece during the Bridal party entrance too!

Hope this helps you start thinking of ways to include them! I think it would be cute and not school play-like at all! good luck Smiley smile

I commend you Deborah. That was the most useful comment yet. Minus the fact that you made a boy a flowergirl lol Smiley winking

Thank you those of you actually helping and making useful sugestions! It really has made me get a lot more creative on how to include them. And just want to make it clear to everyone telling me it's a bad idea, in case i was rude before (which obviously shouldn't bother most of you becasue your comments were not only rude but some downright nasty) i do appreciate you trying to tell me what you think is right and save me from doing something i will regret. But i have to say, until the last few helpful comments, the way most of you were talking to me, not what you were trying to tell me but how you were saying it, was truly making me want to delete my account and leave this site for good. Rude, thoughtless people like you are exactly why i live in the middle of nowhere that most people even from my own state have never heard of, because people out here still know what respect is.

@Mrs. Chanel Deborah actually made the boy a flower girl escort not the flower girl.

@Ms. to Mrs Pratt I forgot I have a couple of candle lighters too if you feel comfortable with one of them doing that

@his #1 Lady. How are you doing the Jr. Bride and groom thing? What are they wearing and when will they walk in, where will they stand? What all does the candle lighters entail? Don't think I've ever heard of that before?

Have some as ushers, some hand out programs, some 'guard' the guestbook and card box, some flower girls, sign carrying kid, ring bearers, two as the wedding greeters....just give them a task and they will all feel special.

I'm having my 11 year old niece monitor the guest book, his 8 year old niece man the favor/gifts & card table, his 3 and 5 year old nieces as flower girls and his 3 year old nephew be the ring bearer. My daughter and son will be a junior bridesmaid/groomsman. I don't have so many little ones, but I understand the importance of including them all. Maybe have each of the older girls walk down the aisle with one of the little ones, all of them as junior bridesmaids/groomsman. Or have the little tiny ones in the wagons as "flower girl/ring bearer assistants" or "petal patrol/ring security" as my sister calls them. Have the 4-6 year old be the official flower girls and ringbearers and pull the wagons. Just some thoughts, good luck!

Also, my daughter and son will be in the same clothing as the wedding party, the other kids will be in matching clothes the same color as the wedding party, but a different style from the wedding party. My kids will stand up with us during the ceremony because they are going to do the sand ceremony with us. The little ones will sit with their parents in the front after they make it down the aisle because I don't think they'll stand up there for very long, lol. I've seen a candle ceremony where two kids lit two candles at the beginning of the cermeony and then at the end, the bride and groom use those to light their candles and then light one single candle together. Very pretty.

@Ms. to Mrs. I haven't quite decided, but more than likely the Junior Bride will be in something frilly and white and the junior groom will be in a suit to match the groomsmen. The junior bridesmaid will be in a dress the same color as the bridesmaids same with the junior groomsmen. The mini bride/groom something along those lines. I will also have one child assisting the "minis" down the aisle so they won't be scared to walk. We are planning on having candles along the aisle so someone will begin the ceremony lighting those. Then I have a couple of people laying out the aisle runner
