How to hem a lace wedding dress. Allure 9564

Nadesdye, on September 16, 2019 at 12:50 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Hello

I just bought my dress. I love it, but I realized I have no idea how it will be hemmed. I am 5 feet, I will be wearing 2.5 in wedge sandals, it will still be 7 inches too long. I just don't know how this will be done as it is not the typical lace gown.

A seamstress can still hem a lace trim wedding dress, it’s just going to be a lot more expensive. They can take apart your bodice and remove extra fabric from your skirt at the top so they don’t have to cut off the lace, or I suppose they could carefully remove the lace and just sew it back on.

Photo I found. This is the dress right and that lace goes all around? It doesn’t look like an easy hem.

Yeah, that's going to be a challenging one, but I'd guess a good seamstress can still come up with a way to make it happen - maybe something like cutting off the border part, then cutting off the appropriate length, and then reattaching the border? I think taking it to at least one seamstress to see what they think would be your best path forward.

    Hi Yam

Yes that is the dress I bought. I do think it will be much harder to shorten it. Thank you for your reply.

    Hello Sara

Yes, as I was looking more at the pictures, I realized there are no seams, the lace is not applique or sew on.

Thank you for the suggestion, I think I may need to do that.

    Congratulations on your October wedding.

My dress has lace all over the bottom and my seamstress said it was really easy to hem. They just remove the lace and then hem and then replace it. My total cost for hemming, bustle and altering the bust was $230.

I just read that your lace isn’t an a sew-on. That may be trickier then mine and more expensive. I’m sure your seamstress will know exactly what to do! The dress is very beautiful!

Thank you Becky, I do think it is more complicated. I do hope the seamstress can do some work, although it may change the look.
