How to get rid of static?

Loretta, on August 17, 2012 at 11:21 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

Just got my final dress fitting yesterday! But when I tried it on the static was so bad my hair poofed.. Does anyone know a good way to get rid of the static, from the dress and the dress bag? We have this "Static Guard" spray but the smell is wretched and I don't wanna stink on my wedding day. We also tried dryer sheets but it didn't do anything for the dress bag.... Help

You've used the dryer sheets, and you don't want to use the spray? I agree the spray sucks with the smell, but I haven't ever noticed that the smell sticks around. Maybe try a different bag? I know the ones that they provide at the stores are supposed to be so special but you could use another one if you find one that is long enough and full enough. Also, you could ask a dry cleaner-they may have a trick.

Try using dryer sheets. I know weird right. But they actually really work. Smiley smile

I just used an unscented dryer sheet on my hair.

Or try to rub the unscented dryer sheet on the inside of the dress?

Or a water bottle with a 'mist' setting, hold it a foot away and spritz the bag. It's the absence of moisture making the static worse.

I was thinking of spraying the dress with the Static Guard and just leaving it out of the bag the night before, but the smell of the spray triggers my migraines... I haven't thought to ask a dry cleaner, and a new bag may work. Its just all I have right now and the wedding is Tuesday.

I hadn't thought to spray the bag w/ water.. *feels dumb*

You should have the dress out of the bag as soon as it gets to the room where you are getting ready. I had my train all spread out a week before my wedding (In a Locked room)

Do you need to transport your dress to a different location for getting ready?

We will just need to transport it there. We have a mini destination wedding (couple hours away from home) but we'll be at the hotel the night before. Just a lot of people (Myself, Mom, Dad, Bro, and Bro's g/f) are staying in that room and I'm afraid something might happen if I leave it out too long. I was planning to leave it out over night, just still having a static problem even out of the bag. Really I just don't want my hair to poof up again like it did yesterday.
