How to find a bridal dress??

Mia_Porter16, on February 8, 2022 at 8:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 9
Hi Ladies! I've recently become overwhelmed with trying to find wedding dresses that I love. I have narrowed down my ideal to dress to silhouette, fabric, and neckline. However, I am not finding any great way to search online for a "mikado, A-line or ballgoen, sweetheart, strapless/off the shoulder dress!" Does anyone have tips? The only way I have gone about it so far is to look for specific designers and then filter through their dresses with specifics but there are so many designers and I have no idea who is going to have what I like. Thanks in Advance!!

Have you been to any boutiques? I basically did the same as you - went on the website of any boutique I planned to visit and made a shortlist, and also had a pinterest board of things I liked to show the consultant. When I arrived they asked what I was looking for, I told them, and they took things out they thought would fit what I'd asked for.

I think the issue with searching for a specific dress online is, you might find the perfect thing, but then discover it's not available in stores in your area. OR, it is available, and you try it on but you hate it. OR it was from a collection 5 years ago and is now discontinued.

Sometimes just the rough idea you said you already have - plus being open to try on different styles, silhouettes etc, is enough, and the consultant pulls something out you'd never have thought of.

Thank you! Yes, I had done a bunch of Google research and showed up to my first boutique over the weekend and hated every dress I thought I would love and REALLY liked dresses that I thought I wouldn't! The only issue is they didn't have the fabric, silhouette, or cut I was looking for all in one dress but I know it exists. I feel a lot more relieved knowing I've narrowed down a ton of details but have only found 3-4 dresses that are currently available to try on at stores around me (when I'm ready to) that I like. 3-4 dresses may be all I need to decide that one is definitely "the dress" but I thought I would find more than 4 dresses online that I'd be excited to try on after my first appt! Maybe I'm too in my head. I guess I'm nervous about showing up to a second appt and not finding the dress for me because I have less than a handful in mind

I know what you mean! I think you have to remember that you only need one dress, so 3-4 is plenty to narrow down from! Plus you can always customise something if it's 90% there, you know? I hope your next appointment is loads easier and more fun than you're expecting, and you walk out with THE ONE!

I had a list of things I wanted too. I found about 6 dresses I really loved and printed out photos of those styles to take to my appointment. I didn't end up buying one of those exact styles, but something similar. I recommend finding a few you love and showing the consultant, they'll be able to nudge you in the right direction!

Online was too overwhelming for me, the only thing that really helped was seeing dresses in person! There are so many beautiful dresses in the world, but I think trying them on in person will immediately narrow it down further. 😊

David's Bridal's website has a really interactive feature where you can choose any feature you want, including fabric, silhuette, length, neckline, etc. But I would suggest not locking yourself into what you think you want. Go to a bridal store and yes try on your ideal dress, but try on some other things too! You might surprise yourself.

I would try on all styles. I always thought I wanted tea length, I tried a couple on and did not how they looked on me. For years I always told myself no ballgown because when I hear ballgown I think Disney princess poof and I'm not a girly girl. Well, I told myself to just try a ballgown on. I ended up loving the ballgown.
