How to express kids are invited, if you watch them

Kaitlin, on January 24, 2024 at 3:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
We are planning on inviting all the kids in the family, which works out to around 35. We couldn't figure out a way to split them up without splitting families, so it's all of them. The venue has a rule that children under 12 must be supervised at all times. I want to clearly state that on the invitations and website, but I'm not sure how to word it. More specifically, there is a blended family with 7 kids, 4 are under 12. I'm most worried about them and hoping that by putting this in the invitation, they'll decide to leave the kids at home (which isn't uncommon).

If we said no kids, we'd still have to make an exception for several family members traveling from out of town, whose go-to local babysitter will be at our wedding.

Why not hire a child minder/entertainer service for the evening? A lot of wedding couples do that.

I don't think you can really say anything reminding people to watch their kids directly on the invitation without sounding condescending.

I wouldn't put it on the invites but I think you can include something on your website. Since you stated the venue has a policy on it I d just blame it on that. if you have a FAQ section I d put some thing like Q:Are Children invited? A: We are so excited to celebrate with you, if you d like to bring your children they are welcome but please be advised our venue requests all children under the age of 12 are closely supervised all evening. Thank you!

    Good luck!

There’s really no polite way to say that on an invitation or website. Lying never ends well either, be it saying something is a venue policy or otherwise. Hire a company in your area that provides childcare for events. That way, they are supervised the entire time and have the opportunity as they wish to be with the parents if that is preferred.
