How to decorate a pavilion without breaking the budget?

Samantha, on September 6, 2023 at 3:06 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 11
I’m getting married in June. The ceremony will take place in a pavilion that I don’t think is terribly pretty but chose it because of many other factors. I had wanted to do drapery and thought that would make it pretty enough. I had estimated spending about $2,000 on it but the lowest estimate I’m getting is about $3500. Florals would also be pretty costly. Do you have other decorating ideas? I’ve attached a picture (note that you don’t actually get that pretty view in the background because there’s a street behind the pavilion so seated guests only see a white fence blocking the street). How to decorate a pavilion without breaking the budget? 1

Why would florals be costly? They are very inexpensive at the local grocery store or via FiftyFlowers.com. Just cut the stems and place them in small vases interspersed with unscented votive candles (in vases that cover the highest part of the flame). No need for decoration beyond that. Guests will be too busy socializing and dancing to notice whatever is outside.

This is for the ceremony. They won’t be dancing here and won’t even be socializing much once they take their seats. I also don’t want too many things on the ground for the guests to trip over on the way to their chairs.

Many ceremonies don’t have any decoration, including arches that are all over social media. Depending on the look you want, you can rent a pipe and drape backdrop for the altar area inexpensively and will be cheaper through a local party rental company than buying all the parts yourself that you have to store afterwards.

This is rather pretty. You don't have to do much for the ceremony. I'd concentrate on the reception area where you will spend more time.

Agree that you you don't have to do much here. The wood and the light fixtures are lovely. Maybe an aisle runner and some bows or greenery arrangements on the chairs on the aisle and I think you are good to go. Save the money for the reception.

This is a lovely space! I agree that it doesn't need much. I would wonder about renting an arch or some focal point at the end of the room, do an aisle runner and decorate the chairs on the aisle.

You can buy an arch for a very reasonable price on Amazon, Etsy, etc. or rent one locally. Likewise you can rent trees or plants or plan aisle decor to double as your reception centerpieces. The ceiling is a nice focal point. Once guests are seated I agree with PP that you don't need much. I wouldn't recommend draping.

We will be having a chuppah that will be a focal point, but the aisle runner is a good idea.

To decorate a pavilion without breaking the budget for your June wedding, consider alternative and cost-effective decor options. Since drapery and florals are proving to be more expensive than expected, you can explore alternatives such as string lights, paper lanterns, or fairy lights to create a warm and inviting ambiance.

Additionally, DIY projects like handmade centerpieces, table runners, or repurposing thrifted or rented decor items can significantly reduce costs while adding a personal touch to your venue. Embrace the unique aspects of your pavilion and its surroundings by incorporating elements like potted plants, simple fabric swags, or even large photographs or artworks to enhance its charm without exceeding your budget.

What about lanterns (doesn't even have to be real candles) as a walkway? They could line the aisle, and you could get them at craft stores and dollar stores
