How to check if someone is ordained

Silver, on August 19, 2021 at 2:11 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 3
Hey there,
We have someone in mind that we are going to hire to officiate our wedding. But I want to check to make sure it’s legit. Is there a way to check if they are registered?

It’s a valid question albeit odd. The main thing you need to be concerned about is if your state allows people who are not clergy from a house of worship or an officiant for hire online. Aside from asking them directly, contact the marriage license office for information.

This might be a good question for the clerk of wherever you’re getting the marriage license from. I’m not sure if there’s a database or anything. Our officiant did show us directly her certificate of ordainment, so the officiant should be willing/able to show you *something* but as far as confirming legitimacy, try the clerk

Hi Silver! Just ask the officiant!! They should have a license or a certification or ordination they can show you!
