How to celebrate with kids?

Natt, on July 31, 2019 at 8:26 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6
I’m so happy to be married to a great man but I would like some help coming up with ideas on how to celebrate our 1st month together. During our honeymoon we found out my mother was sick and might need surgery we decided to take in my 3 sibling when we came back from our honeymoon so my mom can rest for a few weeks. The kids range from 5-14 years of age he has been so supportive of them being here and treats them great he even comes back to cook dinner for everyone after working all day (I burn everything I make) although he is so supportive you can tell he doesn’t know how to deal with so many kids (he grew up an only child) the house is still a mess from all out of wedding DIY and our 2 dogs so I can see why he is a little stressed out and overwhelmed with the kids here. we just got married and weren’t planning to have kids in a few years and now we have 3!! Our 1 month anniversary is in less than a week and I would love to show him how much I appreciate him. I would normally suggest going out to dinner (he loves to eat) but with the 3 kids here who are very picky that may not be the best idea is there another way we can celebrate our 1st month together and show him how much I appreciate him for everything he has done for our new family?

If you can trust the 14-year-old to watch the other two or get a babysitter for a few hours, you could go to dinner and have the time alone while the kiddos stay home. I’m sure he (and you) would appreciate the break and alone time.

Yes this. Oh the 14 year old can’t watch kids maybe a breakfast out when school starts or a lunch. If you wanted to do something with kids the zoo is always great.

You and H deserve time alone together! PPs gave a great suggestion on having your teen watch the younger kids

My FH got an instant family by being with me. I have two boys ages 12 and 9 plus FH and I have a 13 month old so I know how hard it can be to get alone time with kids around.

One of the things that works for us is to have a separate but together date night. We put the baby to bed first. Order some pizza for the kids and set them up with a movie (or two) and popcorn. While they enjoy movie night FH and I pop open a bottle of wine, get some chocolate, cut up some fruit and cheese and hang out or watch a movie in a separate room.
