How to buy off the Rack dress

I haven't started buying wedding dresses yet since my mom really wanted to do it with me. am in Toronto Canada and she is in California. I am coming down in May through July so we are shopping then. It is a short time frame so I was just going to buy a dress off the rack. Fitting won't be to big a deal since I make wedding dresses for a living so I can alter it myself. Only reason I have to buy a dress is my mom really wants to be part of a "Hallmark" wedding she calls it. Anyway, are there special stores that sell off the rack dresses or does any bridal store sell off the rack dresses with other types of dresses? Do I have to call in first? And lastly but not as important, I do prefer cheaper places since Canadian Dollar is very weak compared to USD. Any good places in California? I will be in the Bay Area but traveling is fine. Sorry for the questions. I just want to be prepared since I don't really have time to spare.

You are a lot calmer about this than I would be, but I do think it's sweet that your including your mom. As far as places in CA I can't help you there, just know that CA is pretty expensive so keep that in mind when you're working with the exchange rate.

Most bridal salons will have some dresses available off the rack, depending on your size. I ended up ordering my dress, but the shop I went to had a surprising number of off the rack gowns in bridal sizes 16-18
definitely try Davids Bridal if you are on a tight budget

Check out any consignment shops in the area. Not sure of where to tell you to go in CA, but most bridal stores will have off the rack dresses. Depending on the store, some require appointments so that they dedicate that time to you.

Thank you so much for all the replies everyone. I'll definitely check out David's Bridal. And yea. I would rather buy my dress in Canada because of the exchange rate but my mom doesn't have the time to come down now that my grandma is not doing so well.

By Hallmark she means the typical traditional weddings you see on American tv. She never had a wedding and we are Vietnamese so all the weddings we go to are traditional Vietnamese weddings.

I ended up buying mine off the rack in outlet bridal salon. I made appointment,it was great experience and very cheap sunce I am on the budget. I am in Toronto,so I could help you,but really don't know in CA. Good luck!
