How to ask someone to be a bridesmaid?

I ordered cards off Etsy, and mailed them to each one asking to be bridesmaids/ MOH.

For my MOH, I think I knew all along who I wanted to ask. My best friend from college who was also my roommate. For me the answer became obvious because she asked me questions right away about what I was thinking for my wedding. It made me happy that she would ask right away; even though that's not what matters the most. I am also closest to her.

I asked with words. It would be awkward to present someone with a gift when asking. What if they don't want to say yes?

I texted them prior, just with what I thought it would cost them and the date of the wedding. Once they said yes, I sent them formal "proposal" jewelry boxes. My MOH was a pretty clear choice, she's been my closest friend for the longest.

We just asked. We didn’t need some elaborate proposal or a gift to ask our closest friends to participate in the biggest day of our lives. I chose to have my sister as my maid of honor because that’s who I’m closest to.

I made personalized wine bottle label and asked my MOH. My bridesmaids are my future step daughters.
