How to announce minimony on social media

on May 30, 2020 at 11:46 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 2 6
Hi everyone! Like lots of couples, we’ve postponed the big wedding we had planned for June. We are still getting married on our original date with our immediate family there. Any ideas for how to word the announcement on social media that we officially tied the knot? Obviously we still want everyone to be excited about our larger ceremony/reception happening later this year. Thanks for your help!

"We legally married on (date). We are looking forward to celebrating with you at a renewal of vows and reception on (date) with formal invitation to follow".

Be prepared for folks to invite themselves since you are making the announcement public.

I would leave out the part about when the actual reception is... more like, "We got legalled! We'll party later!" Or something fun like that.

Don't give details, if you want to say something about the "current circumstances" or whatever, go ahead. But, under no circumstances, would I remotely mention when/where the reception is... because people *will* save that information.

We created a private Facebook event page and announced our postponed to guests we had already sent invites out to. When we decided to move forward with getting married with immediate family only we also put that there and we live streamed our ceremony on Facebook live through our event page so only those in the group could see it. Everyone has been super sweet and understanding.

I’ve seen people posting pictures from their ceremony (or in their wedding outfits) with “we just couldn’t wait!” Or something to that effect. You could add something about the party needing to wait till the month/year of your new date.

A simple, “we got married, see you at the reception,” should do it. Make no mention of when and where and you should be in the clear.

Personally I'd switch my relationship status to married and move on lol. Anyone worth announcing to in my life would either already know it was happening that day or would be informed personally. Plus wedding info on social media opens you up to a flood of issues
