How to address coworkers' Save the Dates & Invitations

MrsOz88, on March 14, 2015 at 10:35 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

I'm addressing my Save the Dates and just realized I'm unsure how to address those for my coworkers.

They are all female, and I've only met a few of their husbands. For the rest of my STD's I'm writing "Mr and Mrs John Smith" for married couples. Being that I've never met the husbands in this case, I feel strange doing that.

Is that format still appropriate? Or maybe "Mr John Smith and Mr Jane Smith"??

Thanks!!

Do they have kids or are you inviting kids because you can write The Smith Family. I don't know the proper etiquette, but I am sure someone else on here does.

Spouses should always be invited, therefore they should be addressed to the couple, Mr. & Mrs. John Smith

Husbands names always go first, so yes Mr. & Mrs. John Smith is the correct way to do it even though you don't really know the husbands. Also not using a first name is a good way to go.

I addressed all of my invites to Mr. & Mrs. Smith and left out the first names. It bothers me to call a women by her husbands first name. And while Mr and Mrs John and Jane Smith is correct I thought it was too long.

For our save the dates, we went a little more informal and did John and Jane Smith, but for the invitations I think we are going to do a combo of Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, and for couples with different last names (which we have a lot of on our list) we're doing John Smith and Jane Doe (no Mr or Mrs). Basically I think including the wives names would be totally appropriate because there are lots of different ways to do it.

I actually just received one from a co-worker. The outside envelope was addressed to me only, then there was an inside envelope that simply said "Lia & Tim." That made me assume he was invited, and wasn't sure about his last name.
