How soon is too soon ?

Nicole, on January 2, 2020 at 9:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
Hi there ! I got engaged almost two weeks ago and we’re shouting for a 2022 wedding . I know they’re expensive and we just moved into our new home so we need time to save and take care of bills. When did you guys start planning for your big day , and is there such thing as too soon ?

We got engaged in July 2018 and are getting married this July, so a 2 year engagement. We had our venue, photographer, and caterer booked by September of 2019. I'm a huge proponent of getting your vendors locked in early (at least the major ones) if you're able to. Not only will you have a better selection (because the odds are the more experienced/popular vendors won't have been booked yet) but you will also get locked in to better pricing (we got 2018 pricing for our vendors instead of having to now pay 2020 pricing, which is awesome, especially in regards to catering!).

I agree with PP, it's never too early and some vendors will even book 2 years in advance! It definitely doesn't hurt to start looking around now Smiley smile

It’s not too early to book your big vendors such as venue and photographer. I would set your budget first and then go from there. Congratulations and good luck.

Hi Nicole, it's never to early to start looking for venues especially, your cost will be lessened and more dates should be available for bookings, and for photographers who are in high demand! To me, those are the things you should want to take care of first, I also bought my dress already, and I'm not getting married until Feb. 2021 , which means I can't gain any weight haha, look at this way, anything you can finalize early will end up saving you money in the long run, good luck, and enjoy the journey!

Sometimes booking far out saves money.

We got engaged 19 months before we got married. In the first 7 months, we found our venue, finalized budget & guest list, and found our DOC & photographer. Most of the planning happened 8-12 months out though. I'd start a budget & guest list now, and start looking at venues. I would wait on smaller vendors though & do a lot of research.
