How soon is too soon to contact a caterer?

We booked our caterer a year in advance, but I know many of them book up to 2 years in advance so you could definitely start looking now!

I booked 18months out although I'm having a DW in Jamaica.

I don't think it's too soon to start looking, but some caterers might be hesitant to give you a quote this far out. Price of business/goods changes over the years and a lot of vendors will have a price sheet that says "2019 pricing" at the top and "*prices subject to change" at the bottom lol.

But if you can get it all done now, I'm with you on that! I started planning as soon as we got engaged and had all of our major vendors booked within two months (we're only having a ten month engagement though). Good luck!

We contacted caterers 16 months out, the two we liked are pretty popular so we scheduled our tastings early then booked around 8 months.

I have thought about this too but the particular place we have been looking into with the most interest has been an established caterer in the area for a very long time. So fingers crossed we wouldn't be the ones they magically went out of business right before our wedding 😂

Haha when it comes to restaurants they can be popular one minute and then gone in as little as two years so it is a viable concern haha but I agree if it feels risky, beware!

Haha I am just crazy and like knowing things pretty far in advance. Especially because other than the venue, I think food will likely be the next big ticket item, so I need to plan ahead how much money it will be. Even if it is an estimate!

They seemed receptive enough 12 months and less out! But at least starting quotes & stuff before then.

Nice! Our venue has a lot of rules around catering but they don't have their own catering services.
