How short is too short?

Molly B., on August 19, 2014 at 10:12 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

I have my engagement pictures tomorrow and picked out a dress a few weeks ago. I just tried it on now to make sure I still like it and realized that it may be a little too short. I am getting mixed reviews from my mother and younger sister (mom says too short, sister says it's fine). So...how short is too short for engagement pictures??

I think if you're concerned and having to ask about it, then it's probably too short. Keep in mind you'll be posing and moving around, not just standing there. If you reached up to put your arms around FH neck would it cover everything?

Here is a picture of the dress. I am more of a "jeans and t-shirt" so I'm not sure if this is me being paranoid about being in a dress, or a legitimate concern lol...

Looks fine to me. Does it pass the finger tip test? (if you want some kind of gauge)

I think it looks great but agree with jenn just make sure you can put your arms around FHs neck. Another side comment I am a jean and tee girl as well and wore dresses for our engagement photos one of which was probably about that length the pics turned out great but we were outside and I fidgeted with it all day trying to pull it down further! Remember it's just as important to be comfortable as well Smiley smile

It does not look overly short. I think if you are uncomfortable wearing it overall then it maybe too short for you. It is actually a very cute dress and I would wear it. Remember, your mom and sister will have different views. Trust your own gut or take a picture in the dress, sitting, standing, from behind and look at it. Maybe it will help.

It doesn't look too short to me. Try lifting your arms up and see if that makes it too short. Or do a bit of a booty tooch.

As long as you don't see cheek and you're comfortable with it, you're fine.

It's very cute, but if you're not comfortable in it then you could spend your whole shoot being self-conscious instead of enjoying the pictures.

Coco Chanel taught me to do the everyday life test (she did it for her suits, it's a lady's - and this broads - best friend). Climb a set of stairs, get in and out of a car, jump around et cetera. If cheek or other parts show - it's too short.

I wore a little number and this was my STD. I heard someone say it was a little "risque" but whatever, I looked good! If you like it, go for it!

Thank you all so much! I have tried to lift my hands, walk around, etc like you have advised and it doesn't seem to be too short or show anything Smiley smile I'm just being paranoid. Thank you all again!

I think you're fine. Someone I know had a SUPER short dress on for her engagement pictures. She said the photographer had to photoshop an inch onto it for the final picture. Yours looks like its at least 5 inches longer.

How exciting! My photographers made me feel so comfortable, and I didn't even think about the length of my dress the whole time. Thanks so much for all your advice Smiley smile

Dori, yay! That's great! Hope your session turned out amazing!
