How set are you on a season for your wedding?

Shelly, on September 25, 2019 at 11:01 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

FI and I really want a fall wedding in September or early-mid October. We live in Ohio so unfortunately our weather is horrible most of the year, it'd be too cold for an outdoor ceremony (something we both want) after late October and it's extremely hot during summer. I'm in the process of scheduling venue tours and many of them have maybe 1-2 Saturdays left in September and/or October which means I've got to move QUICK! Only the venues are taking forever to respond back and it's difficult to schedule tours around my work hours.

Anyway, we really really want a fall wedding because of the fall colors of dark red, plum, gold, dark blues, those kind of colors. I guess I can use a dark red, blush pink, and gold to make it more summery. An outdoor ceremony is only 15-20 minutes so I'm sure that the heat in that length is okay. I'm more concerned with shaving off two more months and having to plan everything in 9 months instead of 11 lol.

I say pick the venue you want first, then your date and everything will fall into place. I planned my DW in 10 weeks by myself. It was only 55 people but somehow it all comes together.

I agree with Cyndy! If your heart is set on fall go with that! Everything will fall into place & work out. For us I've always wanted a Spring wedding, not too hot not too cold (in Cali).

I was pretty set mostly on weather. I didn't want it to be blazing hot so I wanted something more in the springtime

I was very particular on the time of year for our wedding because there are very few weeks during the year where SC isn't insanely hot and humid or super cold (to a southerner lol). I was looking for April primarily, but the venue we chose was booked so we went with the first weekend of May which should still be comfortable. I would've loved to do a fall wedding too just because I love jewel toned color schemes, but fall isn't very reliable in SC lol

I was very attached to September or October because that is our summer and the nicest time of year where we live. I would’ve pushed my wedding back a year if we needed to but different things are important to different people!

I was set on an October wedding and would accept nothing else. I found many venues that I liked online, but once I contacted them and was told they did not have October availability, we moved on to the next. Luckily, the venue that ended up being perfect for us had 1 Saturday left so we took the first tour they had, loved it, and booked it! You may just have to take time off of work if your timeline is that important to you. If the venues are not as responsive as you would like via email, try calling them.

We were pretty set on a fall wedding. It's both of our favorite season. We are going with purple, silver and black instead of normal fall colors. I may add some fall flowers to the altar area though

I think my heart is set on Fall, so I'm just crossing my fingers I can make a decision after this weekend and have the Saturday left or the Sunday before Labor Day. Luckily my boss has been flexible with leaving a bit early to meet with the coordinators but it sucks because my FI has a harder time to get off but I think I'll just record and take plenty of notes. There's two places right now I would like and one that is beautiful but I'm not sure about the layout so I have to see it in person (two level split very odd).

I picked our date first cause it means a lot (it’s our anniversary date) and then went venue. I wasn’t that little girl who ever dreamed of her wedding, but in our relationship when I thought about us marrying I did always like the idea of a winter wedding. Our anniversary falls into what I consider winter so I guess that worked out!
if you’re set on fall, then go for it, but also I think people get tied up that certain colors have to be attached to a certain season and I don’t think that’s the case at all. If the colors are the only reason you want to pick fall and the shortened time will add stress, just use those colors in a different month. Those colors will still be beautiful no matter what month or season it is

So if I had a July 18th date, that means we have about 9 months to find a dress, get the bridal party dresses, find a photographer, find a DJ, and I'm wondering if that's enough time! I wonder how the heck people plan their honeymoon during all of this! LOL

When I started planning I knew I wanted a late fall/ early winter wedding even though it’s in Michigan lol. When I emailed venues I said I wanted a Saturday in October November or January. We found a venue we loved with only one date left in November so we picked that one! I was 100% set on the season even though A lot of people tried to sway my mind. My FH was a bit iffy also just because of the snow and cold, but when we picked our venue he thought it was most fitting for that season also! Plus our wedding will be in a church and our reception venue is an old mansion that will look beautiful and very fitting!

Lol well I think I’ve found photographer, DJ, makeup artist and venue all within like two months, but everyone is different and I’m very much a procrastinator, so I have to train myself that if I don’t get things done now, they won’t get done lol. You could do it, but it’s a matter of whether you want to haha and that’s a lot of stress, but you’ll also get the reward sooner! And honestly I haven’t thought about honeymoon lol so idk how that gets planned at all!

We were very attached to June because June and September are when the weather is best where we live, and I preferred the vibe of a spring/summer wedding. You’ll be fine with that much time to plan, go for it!

I had always wanted a Christmas wedding so for us getting married in December was the most important.

However, I do agree with the other PP that you can use those colors you want throughout the year if it is those colors that are the most important to you. I would caution you, though, about having an outdoor wedding in the summer. Even though your ceremony may only be 15-20 minutes that doesn't mean that is how long your guests will be outside. Most guests arrive at least 30 minutes before the ceremony begins, and a lot of ceremonies start late, so your guests will be outside for at least an hour in that heat.

Although, they could wait in an air conditioned cocktail area maybe before the ceremony, I would have to check. I’m looking at 4 places this weekend so I’m bound to have a fall date on Saturday, hopefully. *crossing fingers*
