How much would adding a slit cost?/i think i found the dress!

Jazz, on July 11, 2018 at 11:05 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Hey guys! So I went dress shopping this weekend and found a dress I really like! I don't think I'm the kind of person that'll find "the one" sadly haha. But I've been wanting something with minimum layers because we are going ziplining after the ceremony and I want to feel freeee. :p

Anyway, I found the dress used online for $620 (original $1200 or so)! The girl who is selling it is my size, just a little taller and it's in perfect condition. She's even including the veil! Except hers doesn't have the slit so I was wondering if anyone knew an average/reasonable price for just adding the slit? I don't want to spend too much on something that I feel isn't a huge alteration but man you never know with wedding stuff haha. Actually, opinions on the dress would be nice too! Sorry about the weird faces haha (Sorry the app is being dumb so see comments!!)

Thanks!! Smiley smile

Alteration costs vary greatly depending on where you live. I'd call around to a few independent seamstresses and inquire.

Looks like it is a simpler fabric on the bottom so it shouldn't be too difficult to add a slit. Definitely consult with a seamstress. The dress is beautiful!!

If the dress has a seam where you want the slit, or only 1 or 2 layers in the skirt, it is extremely easy. And the fact that the previous owner was a little taller means hemming it will likely mean taking an inch off the bottom, which is enough exactly matching material to make a facing edge around the slit edges.. IF the dress skirt is of sheer or lightweight material, it is meant to be worn with a slip., so it mont cling between your legs as you walk or stand. ,looks terrible, and different colors show through where undergarments and skin are. So a seamstress would either line the skirt so lining and dress open together to bare leg, or you can get a slip and seamstress will make a matching slit in it. Then put bits of Velcro or clear snaps on the edges, so slip and dress edges move together, and slit exposes bare leg.So it may end up a multistep task, but the materials would be cheap, and each step very easy. Not a big bill job. But make sure when you hire someone up front you don't just say, hem and make a skirt. Or her quote will not be accurate, and she will have to wait for you to get slip or herself get material, and bill will be higher than your budgeted estimate.Long answer for a small bit of work, but if you want a quoted price you need to know up front what to ask for.

    Hi Jazz!

I love your dress! Smiley heart

I would start by contacting seamstresses or alteration specialists in your area, as prices will vary depending on your location. I agree with Nicole, the fabric on the bottom being so flowy, simple, and seamless, seems like there would be no problems adding a slit.

Thank you so much for sharing!
