How much Wine?

Muse, on July 9, 2018 at 6:38 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

So I'm really confused on this as getting so many different answers from calculations websites. Our venue lets us buy our own liquor, beer and wine, yay! But now is how much do I need!
We're having wine at the rehersal and PreWedding party Which will be about 4-5 hours and fifty people. Then the Cocktail and wedding is about six hours with wine for 150 people, and then after party for about 100 people of 4-5 hours. And our family really likes to drink especially since over half are staying at our venue.
So how do we plan for that!
We are planning on serving/offering Six wines:
Table White (So semi sweet), Sweet Red, Sweet Rose, Pinot Noir, Cab, and Chardonnay
Originally we planned on 2 cases of each (12x 750ml) Each bottle of wine is about six glasses.
Yes there will also be beer, cider, and two signature drinks.

I bought 3 cases for our reception for 40 people because we all REALLY like our wine. Lol But we are only offering a Chardonney and a Zin. We wanted the good stuff and are willing to pay up for it.

How many people, of those that you are accounting for will, only drink wine? With so many other cocktails to choose from, I wonder how many will choose just wine. I see your dilemma. It's really hard with that many people and that many choices to decide how much of what to get. Can you return what you don't use?

My DOC told us to allot 3 glasses of wine per guest. Or 1 glass per person per hour. We bought 10 cases for our 150 person reception. Each bottle gets about 4 pours (4 glasses). We bought a little more because we are only offering beer and wine but also knowing some people won’t drink wine, there’s really going to be more than enough.

And half the issue is there people will be there Friday evening, all day sat for the wedding, then the wedding after party to!
We can't return what we don't use which is why we made sure it's wine we drink, but even if left with a case of each that's alooot of leftover wine. So it's just like -gah-

Also think of it this way, how much do you drink at weddings? What’s your guest list look like? We have more beer drinkers in our family, but my friends will all drink wine. 3 glasses of wine and I’m feeling good! Everyone is different, if you have an older crowd, you can probably get away with less, and if you have a lot of drinkers you should probably get more to be safe.

Leftover wine is awesome! You can give it to people for the holidays! When you go to a friends, take a bottle. Someone buy a house? Happy housewarming here’s a bottle of wine... I’d rather have some leftover than run out at the wedding and risk people leaving early.

The general rule is one drink per hour, per person. 2 for the cocktail hour. Multiply by the hours in your reception and rehearsal and go from there!

I think that two cases of each on top of your other drink options would be more than enough. Just make sure to buy from somewhere that will allow you to return unopened bottles. If anything, buy more than you think you need. That way you can return them, gift them to guests or WP members, or keep them for yourselves!

Are you only serving wine and nothing else? We served beer and wine for 60, bought 6 bottles and had 5 left. Apparently nobody wanted wine.

Hi Gretchen! How much beer did you buy? We have 60 people for a 4 hour reception and bought 24 bottles of wine (recommended online) and have 140 beers.

My Fiance and I are unsure if it's enough - oh and the wedding is Saturday Smiley sad
