How much to tip maitre d' and chef for a chinese wedding banquet?

Hi Wedding Wire!

Need your help/advice. My fiance and I are getting married soon in Flushing, NY at a traditional Chinese banquet. Our wedding planner recommended to tip $300 for the maitre d' and $500 for the chef, but that seems high...

So I guess my questions are ...

1) For a typical western wedding, how much to tip chef and maitre d'?

2) For a chinese banquet like below, how much to tip chef and maitre d'?

Some additional information:

1) We have ~9 tables.

2) Each table holds around 10 people.

3) Each table costs about $1.2k with alcohol.

4) "A service charge of 20% of food and beverage charges" is added to the bill

5) And there's also the 8.875% NYC sales tax

Thank you!

I'm from NY too, just outside the city in Westchester! That's about what we are tipping them also, but I have a lot more guests then you. I'd say $200/$400.It is high, but think of the work that they do. However, if you aren't pleased with their services like you expected to be, tip them less.
