How much to tip free photographer

Cassandra, on September 19, 2018 at 11:05 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 2
My MOH’s husband is a photographer and he is doing our wedding for free.

I wanted to tip him, but I’m not sure how much. I was thinking around $400

he is also is hiring a second photographer that has never done a wedding, so he is only $200. We are going to cover that cost as well, but how much should I tip him as well?

Thanks!!

    Hi Cassandra!!

First off, I just want to give a shout out to your MOH's husband. What an awesome wedding gift he's giving you!!

So, according to the WeddingWire cost guide, a $100 to $200 tip for your photographer is a nice gesture. I like your idea of tipping your photographer $400 to $500 (I only add the range because photographs are really important to me personally) and then the second photographer $100 or so in addition to the $200 you're already paying him. So, in total, $400-$500 for your MOH's husband and $300-ish for the second photographer.

It all depends on what you have the budget for, but I, personally, would not want to my main photographer whose taking wedding pictures for free to walk away at the end of the day with the same amount as the second photographer who was hired. If that makes sense. Smiley smile Hope that helps!!

For the main photographer, I'd consider giving him at least $500 (and possibly more once you get your pics back if they were amazing).

For the second shooter, you definitely need to tip him too. Probably $100 on top of the regular fee.
