How much to tip caterer

Jess, on July 31, 2019 at 10:13 AM Posted in Planning 0 4

Hello everyone,

My wedding is just under 2 months away so I'm getting ready to make those final payments. However, I'm unsure how much to tip our caterer. We are paying 10,000 to our caterer for full service (food, bar, table settings, etc). Do we tip a percentage or a set amount?

Any advice and suggestions is much appreciated. TIA!

We tipped a set amount per person per role. We used the total bill to figure out the total dollar amount we wanted to spend more or less (a percentage based on some of the spending — I think we calculated on food+staff dollars, subtracting the rental expenses), and tipped out each role as we thought best fit (bartenders, servers, clean up, coordinate, chefs— all an individual set amount according to what they did for us). We did tip everyone individually, as opposed to just adding on a percentage to the catering bill as a whole.

I would double check your contact and make sure they aren't including gratuity as that may change how much you tip if you decide to go beyond that. If it is not included, then I agree with Mcskipper to do an overall percentage then separate it out based on the job that person/people are doing.

Our contract says 20% Catering fee. Would that be gratuity or something else?

Possibly. You should verify with your caterer. If that's what it is, you're already going to be paying about $2000 in gratuity.
