How much to pay your pastor to officiate?

We are getting married in 1 week! Had a discussion about how much to pay the pastor... We are getting married in St. Louis, MO, and our college pastor is driving 2 hours to the wedding. We are already paying for his hotel the night prior. I was thinking $200 (since we are paying for hotel), but fiancé is suggesting closer to $300-$400 since he is traveling...

We have talked with the pastor once over Zoom for planning the wedding, and did pre-martial counseling with a local couple. The pastor has known us for a few years, but we aren't super close.

Any advice?

I would reimburse him for all travel costs then give him a nice tip on top of that.

I wouldn't consider paying for his hotel as part of his fee. Vendors who travel get reimbursed for expenses AND paid for their service. If you're asking here, I guess that means you have already ask him what he usually charges? If he won't give you a number, then ask the college what the standard rate is.

I think anything between $200-$300 is perfect!
Typically if your officiant is a religious figure and not charging you for the wedding, the couple gives a donation of $100-$300 to their place of worship. And when hiring a civil officiant, most couples spend between $150-$350.
