How much to pay officiant

Paige, on August 12, 2020 at 7:40 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14
Our pastor is officiating for us and has said he is not charging us. However, we would like to pay him. For those of you that hired an officiant, how much did they charge?

Charges not chess. Maybe you can research cost of other officiants in your area and price match.

My fiancé’s aunt will be our officiant but she refuses to take cash from us. So as a “gift” we will be giving her a gift card, bottle of wine, & customized tumbler.

I think $100-$300 seems reasonable. Check what other officiants are charging in your area, and maybe use that to come up with an amount to pay your officiant.

    A donation of $200 - $500 is customary.

Our pastor was also free, but my fiancé was finally able to get him to say that people typically give him around $200. I think we are going to give him $250 and a gift card to a local restaurant we all talked about during one of our counseling sessions.

A donation comparable to others in your area. Most vendor websites have prices listed.

Daughter & SIL's pastor was similar for their wedding, and said there was no charge. He's a young guy with a family, so while his offer was generous, it wasn't realistic. They gave him $300 in cash in a card at the rehearsal. I think he was very appreciative. We live in So Cal and daughter had researched "professional officiants" before they asked SIL's youth pastor from when he was a teenager if he'd officiate. "Professionals" seemed to start at $500, so they felt like $300 was a good compromise between $0-500.... Smiley winking

$200-300 near us. Except that some pastor's contracts say, pastor is paid by them, no fees. And any tips go to a church fund. Then a non-cash gift certificate or two seems in order.
