How much to give to pianist?

L, on October 29, 2018 at 11:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4
Hello!
I cannot believe that I’m saying this but I am getting married in 11 days!!!!!! Holy smokes!

My friend’s 16 year old niece will be playing the piano at our wedding ceremony. She will play the processional portion so about 6 songs. My 16 year old nephew will accompany her for the bridal profession and he will play the violin. My friend was originally going to play the piano as a gift but she was pregnant at that time when she wanted to practice and felt she couldn’t do it. So she volunteered her niece.

How much should I gift them?

Also - i have several people helping throughout the wedding with little to-do things. My future sister in laws have played a big part in helping me plan the wedding. I got them each a necklace. Should I get them anything else?

Since they aren't professionals and they aren't currently pursuing a degree in music, I would suggest about 150-200 for each of them. If you will be having them for rehearsals then you need to pay them more for their time. That is typically what I was paid for important gigs. -Coming from a musician finishing her degree to be a music educator.

I agree with this. I'm a professional musician (wedding Cellist) and when I was in college & playing weddings, people I played for gave me $100, but I never expected payment. I just did it as a favor. As for your inlaws, maybe a nice meal afterward the wedding excitement has died down a little.

Hi L! That sounds so nice to have live music for your processional, I'm sure it'll be beautiful! Agreeing with the above comments, I would say anywhere between $100-150 would be greatly appreciated by them! As for your in-laws, maybe you could add in a bottle of their favorite wine or a gift card to their favorite coffee shop or restaurant!

I hired a pianist to play 30 minutes prior to the ceremony while everyone was being seated and to play / sing my entrance song. I paid her $250. I would probably pay yours $150 as there are less songs and no singing!
