How much time off work?

Salina, on July 30, 2023 at 3:57 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

We are getting married on Oct 20th, which is a Friday, and we are struggling to decide how much time we should take off work before the wedding. We are both managers at our companies and we both don't want to take off too much time but we also want to enjoy our family and friends coming into town. Anybody have any advice? I was thinking of taking off the Wed, Thurs before.

Do you have a wedding planner or coordinator? This will factor in your decision. Will you have a rehearsal? You will definitely need that day off (I'm assuming it would be Thursday) I think I would personally add in Tuesday off. That day can be all the running and last minute calls/checking in day, It will leave the rest of the week open for celebrating with incoming friends and family. Have fun planning!!!

Thank you for the quick reply. We do not have a wedding planner, we decided to do this ourselves for cost reasons. We are planning the rehearsal for Thursday around 3 and are grabbing a quick dinner after that before we all split ways to our respective air bnb's for the night. I was thinking of adding in Tuesday for last minute details to allow myself time to get through everything without too much stress. Thank you for the advice!

My wedding was on a Friday! We took a half day that Wednesday, all day Thursday, and all day Friday off work. The only reason we took time on that Wednesday was because we had plans for that night, and needed to drive up early to get there on time (our wedding was a couple hours from where we lived). If your wedding is local and you don't have a whole lot to setup yourself at the venue, then I think taking that Thursday and Friday off work would be sufficient. If you have family and friends in town before then, then I would also take Wednesday off to spend time with them.

For my Friday wedding, my husband and I only took off the Thursday before and the Friday of course. We're both teachers, though, and planned our honeymoon three Sunday through Friday the week after the wedding, so while we would've liked to take some of that Wednesday off, we couldn't really swing it

There are millions of jobs. And only one wedding. Take as much time as you need. There are many jobs that would give you that time, even as managers, no questions asked. A good company will work around that and respect the sanctity of work-life balance.

Ours is in November 2024. And I manage my team. I am confident that my boss and co-workers would pick up the slack, no questions asked, because I do the same for them. And my fiancee runs her business so she’ll have the same apprehension, I’m sure. But we both will probably take off the week prior and week after to enjoy the moment.
    Congratulations on marriage!

This also depends how much you can realistically get done in the weekends leading up to your wedding. How much DIY will you have to do, do you need to pack to relocate to where your venue is, are you going on your honeymoon right after, etc? I do think it’s more likely that you would regret not taking enough time off than that you took off too much time. Go ahead and give yourself the space you need (and reduce stress)!

My wedding was also on a Friday and the venue was about an hour drive from our home. We took off Wednesday for last minute stuff, Thursday for the rehearsal, Friday for the wedding obviously, and Monday and Tuesday to spend time with family and friends who were in from out of town. So we each took a full week off from work. But if you are hoping to take less time, Wednesday through Friday should be plenty if you aren't traveling too far.

Hello, I would say take off how much time that you feel comfortable with, as long as you will jeopardize the requirements of your job and that being off will pose an impact on you financially. Enjoy! Erica
