How much time for dancing?

Ashlea, on December 30, 2018 at 10:42 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11
So I’m trying to get my timeline figured out and the only thing I’m having trouble with is how much time to allow for dancing. I realize that many people won’t stay the whole time, but I don’t want everyone to get tired or bored and leave before the sparkler send off. But at the same time I’m paying hundreds of dollars for a DJ and want to get the most out of it. My venue/DJ do not have a time limit. Right now I have dancing from 8-9:30 pm, so 1.5 hours.

Should I extend my send off time to 10 pm? How much time are you alloting for solely dancing? For those already married, what did you do and how did it go?

For "free dancing" I'm only doing 40 minutes. Being to several weddings since being engaged, I've come to realize that not everyone dances or they get bored really quick. Plus having a great playlist full of upbeat songs, a group dance song like "Cupid Shuffle", with maybe a slow song, keeps people engaged and out on the dance floor!

Depends on your style! Dancing is our favorite part and lasted for 3.5 hours and everyone was bummed when the party came to an end.

I think it really depends on your crowd, I'm always pretty surprised by how early so many weddings on here finish. We started dancing at 7.30 and kept going until midnight. It could've gone much later if we hadn't set that as the time the last bus left. People took a break and mingled off the dancefloor when they needed to but it was packed the whole time

Dancing was very popular at our wedding and went from 8-11 p.m. I don't think 1.5 hours is enough time.

I think you only know your crowd. For my family and friends, 1.5 hours would NOT be enough time. I plan on having music playing for dancing from about 7:30-11 PM.

Thanks everyone for the input! I might also add that there will not be alcohol because it’s not allowed due to the religious affiliation of the venue. Not sure if that makes a difference.

I had dancing from about 8:30pm to midnight and the dance floor was full until the last dance. 1.5 hours seems very short to me. That being said we did have a full bar so I am not sure what would have happened without alcohol - I'm guessing people would have left earlier.

Hey Ashlea!! Have you decided how much time you're going to set aside for dancing at your reception? Are you sticking with your original plan of 1.5 hours?
