How much "should" catering cost?

We'll be having about 150-200 people and for food we'll be doing heavy hors doevres. About how much $ should I be planning per person? (it will be roughly 150-160 adults and 30-40 kids from varying ages) Wedding time is 2:30, with me and the bride leaving at 5:30, if this helps at all.

I'm in Northern VA, just outside of Washington DC, and we toured several venues. They were anywhere between $120-175 per person for hor d'oeuvres and a plated dinner.

There's no "should." Depends on the location, the caterer and what and how much you are serving people. Seafood options will add to your price. Your best bet would be to get 3 or 4 quotes for similar options so you can compare apples to apples. You'll soon get an idea what the average cost of catering is in your area.

My wedding will be in Augusta, KS. We are having 8 different pizza options, a pasta option, 4 salad options, bread sticks, and 3 or 4 appetizers. The price per person is between 12.50 to 13.50 depending on how many guests RSVP yes. We are currently inviting around 260 guests. This does not include alcohol prices. However I've been quoted around 15 per person for basic level liquor, 3 to 4 beer choices and 3 to 4 wine choices.

**Edit to add** I will also be having around 40 kids in my guest count. From places that I looked at the kids are the same price no matter what the per person price of the food was.

Upon playing my daughters weddings I have found that usually, (at least in Orlando, Fl) that heavy hors doevres end up costing more then if you offered a meal. I would suggest speaking to several caterers and letting them give you prices, suggestions' options.
