How much is your honeymoon?

Nicole, on January 9, 2020 at 8:29 PM Posted in Honeymoon 2 27

I understand flights/travel expenses also depend on where you live. I'm from Chicago, FH and I are thinking about going to Hawaii for our honeymoon. Originally wanted to do an all inclusive resort in the Bahamas or St. Lucia, but not sure considering the price. I figured it would be cheaper to plan it ourselves to save money. Our wedding is costing a lot already, but we still want to go somewhere nice. We were thinking around 5 nights. If you've planned your honeymoon at either of those places, do you mind sharing how much you spent? Just trying to get an idea. Also, did you go through a travel agent or plan it yourself?

Hawaii is super expensive. I would look all inclusive Mexico or the Caribbean. I think $3,000 is fair. Check Riu Palace, Secrets or Sandals.

Our honeymoon will be in St. Lucia for a week. My mom is gifting it to us. She booked it through Sandals Resorts. If I'm not mistaken, I believe it came to about $8k or so but of course that also depends on which kind of room you get and how long you stay. I'm actually surprised she even wanted to do it cause FH and I think that's kind of a lot. That's not even including airfare but that would be something FH and I pay for ourselves when the time comes.

Not exactly answering your question, but things I looked into before deciding on a location: 1. Price of flights - I found that certain places like smaller Caribbean islands cost $200-300 more per person which really adds up. And we live near 3 international airports which helped in finding the cheapest price. 2. Resorts/hotel prices at different places can really differ as well. Also many places charge a 20% resort fee on top of everything, so we ended up booking Airbnbs.

I looked into Hawaii, but it seemed very expensive overall and was a longer flight than the Caribbean. I am trying to stay under $**** for the honeymoon (7 nights).

We’re going on a cruise. My mom had timeshare points she let us use to cover part of the cruise, so that made a huge difference. With the flights, excursions, and balance for the cruise, we’re right around $4000 (that includes the insurance because with my allergies it would be dumb not to have easy medical access on the boat).

Hawaii is extremely expensive, you have to get everything separately, since there are no all inclusives (at least next to none). Flights are very long and expensive as well. I originally wanted Hawaii, but it was too expensive for us. We are spending a little over 5k for our 9 day all-inclusive honeymoon at Sandals Negril in Jamaica. Everything is included, food, booze, water sports, scuba diving, transportation from/to airport, room service. We opted for a luxury room with a beachfront view and balcony. St. Lucia was our second choice (over Hawaii), it’s called the Hawaii of the Caribbean, since it has the volcanos and mountain areas. When we looked into both places, Jamaica seemed to have more options for us. St. Lucia is a bit more expensive and a bit further out than some of the other Caribbean islands. We went through a travel agent, they do all the research for you, and if there are any issues, they can help you with those as well. Not to mention the personal knowledge they can provide. Def worth it, in my opinion. We told her what we were interested in, and she made recommendations, and once we narrowed it down, she helped us with making our decision on which resort we wanted. Also, most of the Sandals resorts let you book at one, and visit the others, with full privileges!

We originally wanted to book with Sandals, but heard it'll be hurricane season during the time we go (August), so we didn't want to risk it:/

We asked about that too, since we are early October, and that is toward the end of the season. They mostly arc up, once they get close to Florida, and I think depending on the island, they aren’t as common. Then again, I heard that about Bahamas, and look what happened! So awful.

I think St. Lucia was one of the islands are agent said is far enough down, that it usually doesn’t get hit with hurricanes, if you were already thinking of going there. There are fan groups on Facebook for each Sandals resort where people post tips and info. You could join them and ask about the weather in August. I have found the groups for Jamaica extremely helpful!

We just did Hawaii for our honeymoon and it was lovely. However it is very expensive and 5 nights is not enough to enjoy it all. Save that for when you have time and money for two weeks!

If we do decide to go there for our honeymoon, we most likely will go back later on since my future brother-in-law lives there. So it's okay if we don't get to see everything the first time lol but who knows maybe we will extend the trip to 6-7 nights

To be honest, I would think going to an all inclusive in the Caribbean would be cheaper than Hawaii . Hawaii is very expensive!

We spent $4k for 7 nights in the Bahamas. NOT all inclusive resort (we stayed at the grand Hyatt in Baha mar). That price includes everything except flights (we used miles for our flights) so the $4k includes the hotel room, food, drinks, activities, etc.

I’ve been to Hawaii too... not for our honeymoon, and it was several years ago so I’m not sure how much it cost to stay there, but I remember prices (for like food and activities and such) being comparable to the Bahamas. The main thing is a flight to Hawaii would probably be significantly more expensive from the eastern US.

I’d price out your different options though. My GUESS though would be that all-inclusive will always be the most expensive option. But Hawaii will be more expensive than the Bahamas (if you’re not doing all inclusive)

I'm just worried about going to the Caribbean during hurricane season. We still want to go somewhere nice just to get away. What exactly is expensive for Hawaii? People keep saying it's expensive, but I just checked for 6 nights hotel, flight, and rental car it's about $1900. We don't plan on eating nice every meal. Is $1500 enough spending money for 6 days?

We are going away for 10 days....7 on a cruise and 3 in Puerto Rico. All in (meals, beverages, First Class flights, and hotels) we are at $4k.

Are you sure the $1900 isn’t per person? And the cost of anything to do there is expensive and food is very high too.

That was the total check out price when I looked on orbitz for 2 people. I just checked again but their prices went up. So I’m not sure. I’ll probably do more research then about going to the Caribbean, but hurricane season really worries me after hearing about the newlyweds who went there during that time.

We are also going on our honeymoon during hurricane season so we’re trying to avoid it too. The islands in the carribean that are out of the hurricane belt are Aruba, Curaçao, and Bonaire! Check those out too! We are looking into to Aruba, if we can find a good deal!

I would recommend checking out Cabo all-inclusives. You’ll be closer to California so you don’t have to worry about hurricane season and it’s a shorter flight than Hawaii. I’ve had friends who have gone and absolutely loved it, and there’s plenty of excursions to do.

That being said, I’ve also done Hawaii from Chicago but did it all myself, and not for a honeymoon. I see flights range from $500-800 per person and the cost of food etc is comparable to Chicago. I think price will depend mostly on how fancy you want your hotel and room to be, plus paying for food and drinks.
It might not hurt to talk to travel agents either, they normally have discounts with hotels and tour operators
