How much input did you have on your ring?

I am curious to know how much input you had on the design/style of your engagement ring? Did you buy it together? show your fiance your hidden pinterest board and leave him to it? Agree to use a family heirloom? Not get a ring at all?

After we started talking seriously about getting married, I showed my fiance my engagement ring pinterest board. It was a lot of delicate, thin rings with halos like these:

Well... after I showed him I went window shopping and discovered delicate halos like the ones I liked were very difficult to get in Australia and most of what you could get was clunky and ugly and didn't suit me at all! I was so afraid I'd get exactly what I wanted and I'd hate it!

thankfully, despite looking at the board, my sweet fiance only really saw the colour, haha! He bought me a beautiful three stone peach sapphire which is a lot more classic and timeless than what I'd been looking at, and is a beautiful mix of his style and mine, and now whenever I look at it, I'm thinking of us both!

Well done him! Emerald cuts are beautiful! They don't seem to be as common as others but I love them.

Beautiful! Both rings are lovely - that green is STUNNING! I think this is a very thoughtful way of approaching things, if you don't want the person being proposed to having any hint of your plans!

Aww, that's such a good approach! It's like the real-life version of those videos on instagram where jewellers show a bunch of options and suggest sending the link to your partner to see if they can figure out which you'd want! The best part in your case is, having picked out all 5, you know for sure you won't be disappointed, irrespective of what she chose!

Oh so pretty! I know what you mean about seeing the flash of the colour and being like, okay, I like where this is going so far - I did the same with mine, LOL

That is so great. I remember after I went window shopping with my sister she said basically the same to me - 'you want something so specific that maybe you'd be better off choosing it yourself' and it made me very worried I'd hate what I got, although thankfully I LOVE it! But I think you're so right - you're the one wearing it day in, day out, ostensibly for the rest of your life - you should choose what you love, and if you think that would be too hard for a partner to do or guess, then it makes perfect sense to do it yourself!

Haha, I love it. So practical, and SO designed to get exactly what you want! You're wearing it after all, so you need to love it!

Your BFF is the real MVP, for real. What a sweetie. I did send pics to my friends just in case, but my fiance didn't ask - I'm guessing he was determined to do it himself, haha. He's such a love, he didn't show a single soul before I saw it, which I thought was really sweet.

We went shopping together! This is a second marriage for us both. After my first marriage I sold absolutely everything of any value including all of my jewelry except for 2 pairs of earrings. I had lamented a few times about missing the diamond studs I sold. We went on a staycation about an hour away near a great jewelry store and on our way home we planned to stop by there and browse their selection of diamond studs. When we checked in the woman at the front desk asked what we were there for and I said diamond studs and he said engagement rings 😂😳

We picked out the stones and setting together. It was super fun and absolutely perfect for us. He proposed about 5 months after that!

    Not a great picture 😂

He picked it out all by himself. 😊 He knew I liked halos and that’s all the information he had!

Oh I know Im so excited I want to show it off. I love what I found for my FH as well. I did get to take it out of the box for a few minutes last month because we got the lifetime warranty but its only good if the ring gets cleaned and inspected every 6 months so I had to get it checked out last month.

Awwww those are beautiful rings and so is the one that he got for you!

My fiance and I shopped together. I had made a Pinterest board and looked at many different rings and I knew I definitely wanted a three-stone ring with a large center stone, but I had trouble with the kind of center stone. He really loved how unique the salt and pepper diamonds are and showed me some online. I didn't like them! BUT - when we went shopping together at a local jeweler, I fell in LOVE with a salt and pepper three stone ring with a hexagonal center stone and two clear diamond side stones. Really, this man knows me and has great taste, lol. He bought it on the spot and then proposed a few months later on NYE! So excited Smiley heart

Aww thank you! And how good are three stones!

That is SO pretty. The hex shape is gorgeous - you don’t see it as often and it’s just lovely!

I picked out my ring myself. Long-term, DH wants me to have his grandmother's ring, but that is not in our possession yet. Smiley smile
