How much for postage?

Sammy, on November 11, 2013 at 4:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

How much did it cost PER save the date/invitation/thank you card? I'm trying to get detailed with my budget for postage! Thanks!

Well, think of the cost of stamps. If everything is under 1 oz, it will be $0.46 a stamp. If they are over, it could be $0.66 and upward. If you do postcards, it's $0.34 a stamp. Also, on January 1st, postage is increasing by $0.03.

So far we have just sent out our save the dates - we did magnets from VP and they were fine with just a $0.46 stamp.

Also retailmenot.com had a coupon that worked at zazzle - so we actually paid even less for postage.

Awesome! I bought a a box of invitations from Michael's so I'm hoping with the three inserts we have it will still be under one ounce, did you guys that have a few inserts find it made your invitations more than 1 once?

Our Save the Date magnets were not too thick and we were able to use regular $.46 postage Smiley smile Not sure how much our invites and reply cards will weigh.

    OMG! postage is going up?

so i have already bought all of my stamps but i am not mailing until january...willl i have to buy like lil 3 cent stamps? lol. DARN IT!

and believe it or not Sammy even the littlest thing make the weight go up! my invites come with the card, sleeves and ribbon, and it was pushing one ounce. best bet is as soon as you get your invitations and what not, take them to the post office to get weighed! they wont think you are crazy i promise!

@sarah If your stamps are the regular 46 cent one ounce first class stamps, they should be forever stamps. You can use them even if the postage goes up without adding any stamps to them. They should have "forever" written on them.

@lisa thanks for the heads up on the postage increase! Will make sure to buy stamps for thank you cards before the end of the year!!

We didn't do save the dates, so saved on postage with that one. Our invites weren't heavy so we were able to use 46 cent stamps on them. And our RSVPS were postcards, so we only ended up spending 79 cents to mail each invite. HECK YES.

Also, definitely take a sample invite to get weighed. That really helps.

Also, square envelopes cost more postage than others.

Sammy, with 3 inserts, you may be over 1 ounce.

Our save the dates were sent out this morning.

I now am in a little bit of a panic because I hope they had the right postage on them!

We had small magnets inside normal envelopes. I put $0.46 stamps on them.

Oh dear... lol. Guess we'll find out if that was the right postage or not!!!

Our invites and save the dates were each one stamp. Our invites were from VP and came with the invite, response card, response envelope, and a business card sized information insert. We had them weighed, and all was well with the invites Smiley smile

@rustic my magnet was only one stamp. i checked with the post office before I sent them - they were 4x6 and were fine

My invites were also one regular (forever) stamp. I had one 5x7 invite, a 3x5 RSVP card and a 3x5 envelope with ribbon wrapped around it. I also had that weighed at the post office before I sent them - DO THIS. Have them weighed before you send.

Did anybody use a pretty wedding stamp or did most of you use a normal or the forever stamp? I can't decide if I want to spend the $ on a theme-y stamp...

You can get wedding themed forever stamps if you know for a fact they will be under 1 ounce

@Kate, Ok great.. our magnets were 4.25x5.5 That's good to know! Thanks for that.

@Sammy, we used the wedding roses .46 forever stamps. Depending on our invite weight (I will WEIGH them FIRST! HAHA), we may use the .66 wedding cake stamp.

Go on usps.com and see their wedding choices.
