I had to add my 2cents on this because I was also shocked at the price for my Catholic wedding. The wedding is at my church where I've been an active parishoner my entire life. The fee for the church is $750, plus $250 for the wedding coordinator (required), $500 for the priest, $700 for the (required) musicians. They also distributed a lengthy booklet about how if you put flowers in the church, you must leave them there as a "donation," and there were several pages on how these are only base fees and they do not include tips, and you are expected to tip. I was frankly shocked, and pretty angry. They did not disclose all of these fees until less than 1 month before the wedding (all I knew about was the church price which they had quoted me as $400, which jumped up to $750 at that time). Oh and I didn't include the $350 for the required "engagement prep" day at the church. I _love_ my church, and I am really put off by this. Haven't there been schisms over paying for sacraments?

That is outrageous! I would've brought that to the archdiocese. The Catholic church is not supposed to charge for any sacrament.
