How much do people pay for decor??

Sabrina, on October 20, 2017 at 4:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

I'm not sure if this is normal but I have been getting quotes of 5k and up. Our centerpieces are candles in vases. I have 3 bridesmaids, and there are 5 groomsmen. We have asked for two flower arrangements for the church and about 10 little baby breath bundles for the aisles. We have 14 60" tables and were asking for champagne table cloths and burgandy napkins. We asked for 4 trays for some baked goods on a dessert table, and a champagne table cloth and then a table cloth for the cake table. I asked for tulle skirting and candles for the main table, we will be taking the flower arrangements from the church back with us. And a glass frame seating chart. Our wedding is in the small town of princeton, illinois. Is 5k normal for this?

I'm buying a lot / DIYing a lot of my decor so to me, this seems high. Does it include all of the set up? Labor gets expensive

ETA: just saw your update. If the labor isn't making up a large portion, I think this seems high

We're spending around 8k on decor.

Includes all centerpieces, flowers & bouquets, ceremony/aisle decorations, backdrops for ceremony and the reception, guest book/card table decor, even the bathroom.

We saved on other things so we could splurge and get Yanni Design Studio to do our decorations.

    Google them!

Emily, I am starting to think I might need to do it myself and just get our flowers made. I'm worried about time though as we only have access to the building from 8am and I need to be back at the church by 9am to get ready.

Seems high to me. My rental linens are $18 per table. (nothing special or sparkly, but I can't imagine it would be too much more.)

My floral quote is $1000 (keep in mind it is all greenery, no flowers), for 10 small small centerpieces (the venue is letting us use all of their candle hurricanes, so we are just doing simple greenery around several hurricanes), 2 4ft garlands to go over some signs and over our wedding arch, 4 ferns for the ceremony, 1 cascading fern/mixed greenery bridal bouquet, 1 toss bouquet, 6 corsages, 1 basket of petals. (I'm not looking right at my quote, so there might be a couple more line items I missed.) & it includes delivery and set up on the day of.

You are definitely doing more than me, but I don't see how that is $4000 more. Get another bid for sure.

@Sabrina I'm buying linens since it's cheaper for me than renting and assembling a lot before. I did hire a DOC who will set it all up and break it all down. If you DIY (which you totally could) I'd pay someone to handle it day of. You can get vases and candles from Dollar Tree and Amazon. Linens aren't hard to come by either. You could get a tray of baked goods from perhaps Panera!

Eta: sorry my brain is slow today haha you can find trays FOR baked goods at Home Goods or restaurant stores

Miranda, my flowers are mostly greenery too. And I have no flower centerpieces. My tablecloths have been quoted at $35 a table. The bridesmaids bouquets have 3 flowers in and the rest are greenery. I've chosen not to use any roses too.

I've messaged our venue coordinator and she has allowed an extra hour, so I have 2 hours to do as much as I can. I feel like the table cloths and centerpieces I can do myself. Our linens alone not including headtable skirting came to $1368.

@sabrina I think you should DEFINITELY shop around for linens. That's really high. I think I was looking at linentablecloth.com (blanking if this is the right name or not) and for 10 tables of white tableclothes, light blue overlays, light blue napkins (60) and gold napkin rings (60) it came to about $200

I got married in small town Missouri. Linens were $4-7 each (I paid 7 because of the color I wanted), and my floral centerpieces for tables were $50 each. Trays you should be able to rent for less than $5 each. I bought tealight candles at dollar tree (12 or 16/$1) and votive holders on Amazon (I think 150 we're about $70). I don't know about the rest of the things you mentioned.

We paid $3,000 for decor not including flowers. That was for ceiling draping, chandelier, uplighting, air wall covers, lighted trees and a twinkle light backdrop behind the sweetheart tables. Flowers were another $2,800.

I'm DIYing most of my decor. I'm a crafty person so that's what I'm doing to cut back some costs. I'm also picking stuff up slowly as I get coupons/see deals (Yes, I'm that bargain bride. Anyway to save some money). My venue is new and we bring in our own decorations. The best part though is we aren't going overboard on decor because we have a historical building so we're using the vintage look to our advantage. I haven't figured out linens yet. I'm thinking of just buying what we want but, we can also rent them from the place that the venue has recommended (white or ivory).

ETA: I feel like that's a lot of money for decor IMO. Look for deals on your centerpiece items and maybe if you can DIY some things.

How many vendors have you talked to? I would at least get three quotes to compare.

Woof. That seems high. I diy'd most all of my decor.

10x Lamour satin tablecloths $160 to BUY

20x Farmer's market flower arrangements for centerpieces, 2x larger arrangements for ceremony and loose stems for my three bridal party bouquets $600

20x large square vases, 72x candleholders, and a few random vases $350

The venue was able to set the tablecloths for me.

I had all the arrangements set up and packed in crates so it was a matter of just placing them. It took me and two other girls less than an hour to set everything on the table (14 tables) It really doesn't take long to set if everything is ready to go.

My DOC actually was willing to set up the tables also but the venue let me in the night before so I passed on having the DOC come early. If you have one, maybe see if it's an option.
