How much do cocktail hour appetizers and late night snacks usually cost?

akshali2000, on May 31, 2017 at 3:15 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

From previous threads, it seems like providing late night snacks and great cocktail hour snacks are the way to go. Does anyone know how much these usually run (if you get them from the official caterer, not BYO)?

You go with a professional caterer always. Cocktail apps at my venue are billed by a bulk rate with a minimal amt of a given app being 100. Same with the late night snack.

Apps generally range from 2-7$ per piece (in my area--Atlanta) for cocktail hour. you need a minimum of 3 pieces per person for cocktail hour and could go up to 8-10pieces per person. our late night was warm cookies and French macaroons so I cant really speak to the usual late night nibbles--but id imagine 5-15$ pp depending on what you pick.

Most of the caterers we looked at quoted us around $5/person for our late night snack and $2-5 per app.

Late night snacks at my venue were super expensive so we skipped those but the cocktail hour was included for us with 15 passed apps, a pasta station, and a veggie hummus station.

Cocktail apps usually ranged from $3-$5 per piece per person. Late nights tend to be cheaper if the same item but if you go something different it may cost more if more complicated.

We did 3 pieces per person + 20% for cocktail hour and did our own Dessert Bar as late night.

Late night snacks are a really fun idea, but they are an additional cost! Our hors d'oeuvres ranged in price from $115 to $190 for every 50 pieces, and it was recommended to provide a total of 10 pieces per person for a one hour reception.

Most of our apps and late night snacks are priced out per 100. But you can order 125, 150........etc. minimum is 100.

We are doing around 7 apps for the cocktail hour. 5 passed around then a cheese and cracker and fruit display. They only did one per person figuring not everyone eats one for the passed apps. We are not doing the late night snack it's a good idea but the cheapest is like pizza and wings which are $8 a person with a 100 person guest list I couldn't imagine paying $800 for pizza so we are skipping that

Our passed hors d'oeuvres ranged from $3-$5 each and our late night snaks (candied bacon angus slider and parmesan truffle fries) were just under $5 each.

We put our late night snacks out thirty minutes before end of reception.

Most of our venues don't break out cocktail hour food except for upgrades. A flat fee covers cocktail hour, the bar, dinner and dessert.

As for after dinner snacks, I don't really understand this but it could be because most of our evening wedding dinners start with the first course around 8:00, and dinner and dancing afterwards. There isn't a giant gap between dinner and cake and leaving.

@Celia Milton @Christy - same here, usually most of the weddings I've been to had late dinners (after all the speeches/performances/entrances/whatnot) with a heavy cocktail hours to fill people up till dinner.

Maybe something DIY or from outside (if allowable) would be good for late night snacks? I feel like you could do chips and salsa and some chex mix or popcorn for pretty cheap from Costco.

Our apps at cocktail hour came with the catering package but the late night snacks range any where from $4-$8 per person.
