How much did you spend on entertainment?

Grace, on November 18, 2018 at 10:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
Aloha i’m starting to add up costs on really accurate estimates... How much is to much to spend on entertainment and decor? I’m excluding venue and food and beverage so i’m basically talking about florist, decorations, live music, performers only. I’m starting to add things up due to wanting so much entertainment and it’s really adding up...

We spent $1750 on a DJ. Bands in my area run $8-10k and we prioritized our budget for other things. We spent about $7k on flowers.

If entertainment is you're splurge category then spend as much as you're budget will allow, but always still ask for deals! Personally, entertainment is not our splurge item. Ours is the reception venue itself and the bar.
We will be getting a good DJ for probably between $850-950 but DIYing the decor which will most likely be under $100. Our venue already has some decorations.
To get bought items for cheaper remember black Friday is coming up and many things will be on sale.

My FH & I try to stay on track by following a budget planner, so we didn't want to spend no more than 15% of the budget for flowers, decor & music/entertainment. Our DJ costs 1100 and it includes a photobooth, and music for ceremony & reception (based in CA). As for florals and decor roughly 3500.

We spent 850 for our DJ and 750 on flowers. I have no idea how much decorations cost, H's sister bought a ton of decorations (we didn't ask she just took charge and got us stuff) and our mothers bought us some decorations as well.

We didn’t have flowers. At our local reception, our 7-piece band & singer cost $2300, our impersonator cost $1K, our audio tech $500 and for a live band we needed $750+ in equipment (stage, lighting, etc). We prioritized entertainment for reception and it was awesome but my hubby sprang the audio tech & equipment costs on me AFTER we booked the band/impersonator, so I had a meltdown.

Thanks for everyone’s answers I need to seriously take a look and cancel some of the entertainment. I already said no to this super cool led dance floor but it would of been 8 grand!.. Also I really want a virtual reality entertainment but that at least $4500... do you think having something like that is worth it or are people more to just into dancing all night instead of activities like a bouncy house, virtual reality, type of entertainment????

We spent $500 on a DJ, $200 on decor (mainly craft supplies to make the centerpieces) although my mother may have spent slightly more, and $150 on flowers (boutineers only). A friend played the piano for our ceremony (professional musician). I think people are mainly interested in dancing and chatting at a wedding. I think virtual reality or an LED dance floor is completely unnecessary. Plus, if you're going to do that stuff then the food and alcohol better be AMAZING. I always get a little annoyed when a couple spends money on silly/"cool" stuff at the expense of food and/or alcohol.

We are spending $2,200 on our florist. $1,100 on our DJ. $500 on a photo booth. We are doing all our other decor ourselves, so probably spending another $500 on DIY decor. Then our month of coordinator ($1,150) will help it set up. It really just depends on your overall budget!

    -$800 for the DJ

-$1,500 on the florist (11 floral centerpieces, garland for the head table and entryway table, candles and holders, mirrors for the centerpieces, a large arrangement for the entryway table, 9 boutineers, 1 bridal bouquet, 4 bridesmaid bouquets, and flowers for the cake).

-I really had no extra decor that I provided. The only decor I had were the floral centerpieces and my pretty venue. We reused the bridesmaid bouquets for the head table to save a little money. I did not DIY stuff. My seating chart kinda doubled as a "welcome sign" and my venue provided a welcome sign with our hashtag on it. We spent probably $50 on extra little signs and frames with our hashtag on it, signs for the guest book/cards/gifts, open bar sign, and unplugged ceremony sign. We spent $20 on a card box (birdcage).

We just had a DJ, if you are looking to cut back on spending, these would be the first things that I would cut. You know your crowd though and how much they may appreciate stuff like this. My family is spread out all across the country, so we use weddings as family reunions to catch up. My family also loves to dance. I don't think anyone at my wedding would have use a VR type of entertainment, because they would want to socialize with other guests. If you have a local crowd that sees each other all the time and don't like to dance it could be worth it. I think it also depends on number of kids you are inviting and how fancy your wedding is. I probably wouldn't go into a bouncy house in a nice dress, but if you are having a more casual wedding with lots of kids, it might be worth it. Most weddings I've been to have just been dancing, food, and drinks and have been awesome. I've seen some people just do lawn games like giant Jenga or corn hole, which can be fun and less expensive. As a PP said, definitely prioritize food and drink. If I went to a wedding with a cash bar, but a bouncy house, I would be pretty annoyed. Other decorations really depends on your venue. I would just say those little details are the things that will drive you crazy, but no one will really remember, so don't feel like you have to go too nuts. I would recommend starting with food, alcohol, and DJ and the prioritize what's most important to you (is it having a specific type of flower or is it having a bouncy house). From there, you can just spend until you run out of your budget and you'll make sure to have the things that are most important to you.
