How much beer to serve?

Currently trying to decide on how much beer to serve. I have 60 guests, 30 of which are potential beer drinkers (everyone else HATES beer and will be drinking wine). My current options are as follows:

-Get one keg (the most economical)

-Get two 1/4 barrel kegs

-Get three 1/6 barrel kegs (costs the same as two 1/4 barrel kegs)

I know these all produce the same number of servings, but is it better to offer more variety of beer? Will I need to offer more beer if I have more variety because of the possibility of more drinking? While three 1/6 barrel kegs offers a nice variety, it really only allows the 30 beer drinkers to try each beer once.

    That sounds good. Right now I'm thinking of getting a blonde ale and a porter. Wanted to get a wheat beer and a porter, but sadly no 1/4 keg options for wheats. Hopefully that works.

    Porters are pretty dark/strong. You may want to do a something like a brown ale and a lager.

    Do you know what brands you can serve or are you self supplying?

    I was hoping for a wheat beer, but looks like none are available in 1/4. There is a vanilla Porter that looks promising and if that works I'll just have to find a lighter beer. Most of my guests hate IPAs, so won't be serving that.

    For sixty people, I would just go with one pony keg. Since other drinks are available, that would be enough. Besides, the more alcohol available, the more chance you take of some idiot getting drunk and killing people when they drive home.

    Also, if providing alcohol, don't forget about purchasing event insurance to cover yourself in case some lunatic does get drunk.

    I believe you should plan to have drinks for the entire time people is going to be there. If alcohol runs short people will leave.

    I would recommend giving people at least 2 options for beer. When is your wedding? If it's fall/winter I think I would replace the porter with a stout (I think more people will drink that), but spring/summer I would recommend having something lighter for both options. Maybe a blonde ale and a lager.

    We skipped a keg because it limits the kinds of beer.

    We had a similar number of guests ~75

    We did a booze canoe.

    8 bottles red

    8 bottles white

    1 handle whiskey (jack Daniels)

    1 handle tequila (Jose)

    ~120 cans of beer/cider/gluten free beer

    We did everything from IPAS, wheat beers, shocktops, angry orchard, coors & a stout.

    We had some leftovers but that's better than running out Smiley winking

    My recommendation is to offer options if you can. I like the option of cans rather than kegs because of the ease of serving and keeping it cool.

    Wedding is in a few weeks, so it'll be a fall wedding!

    At this point I'm leaning towards two 1/4 kegs or three pony kegs. That's about 124 pints for 30 beer drinkers.

    I guess I'm kind of a beer noob. What is the difference between a porter and stout?

    In terms of other alcohol I have the following:

    -14 bottles of red

    -12 bottles of white

    -24 bottles of moscato (most of my family is into moscato because it doesn't taste like alcohol)

    Hopefully this is enough!

    Cocktail hour starts at 6pm and goes until 6:45. Reception goes until 10pm, so 4 hour total.

    I believe that porters have more of a "hoppy" taste to them than stouts do, I think there are more subtle differences but I'm not too sure of them. What if you offer an Oktoberfest beer? Those are always popular in the fall!

    The two options I'm looking at right now are:

    -Klamath Basin Vanilla Porter

    -Klamath Basin Oktoberfest

    Other options I can swap out are:

    -Klamath Basin Blonde Ale

    -Ninkasi Oatmeal Stout

    -Ninkasi Oktoberfest

    These are all 1/4 BBL kegs. If I go with three 1/6 BBL kegs, I'm considering three of the following:

    -Lost Cost Raspberry Brown

    -Lost Coast Strawberry Wheat

    -Mendocino Caramel Wheat

    -Angry Orchard

    -Blue Moon

    -Lost Coast 8-Ball Stout

    -A stout/lager/wheat beer/pale ale from the brewery near the venue (we're serving their beer during rehearsal dinner, though)

    So many options! Decisions, decisions.
