How much alcohol?

Kimberly , on June 20, 2019 at 8:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hi!

My fiancé and I are providing the alcohol for our cocktail hour and reception. I am looking for any advice on how to plan for how much to get. Our friends and family like to indulge during a celebration so I would like to plan on the higher end. We are inviting around 150 guests. We plan to have an assortment of bottled/canned beer, liquor (whiskey, bourbon, vodka, ??), and wine. Should we just do one type of white and one type of red or more choices?

I appreciate any thoughts!

Here's an alcohol calculator that should help you out with how much of each type of alcohol you'll need! You can adjust it for the length of time that you'll be serving drinks. I don't drink, so someone else may be able to chime in better, but I would plan on offering 3 or so different types of red wine, 2 different white wines, 3-4 different kinds of beers, and then whichever liquor you like.

Hopefully everyone celebrates liberally! Haha. Though in my eyes, it's always better to have too much than too little. And if you have leftovers, it's just an excuse to have people over to celebrate more! Smiley laugh

I had a really tough time too bc my crowd drinks more than the “figure 2 drinks per person for the first hour, and 1 drink per person for each hour after that”

We had 160 guests (about 100 of which drink) and here’s what we got (6 hours for cocktail hour and reception)

    12 cases of bud light
    5 miller light
    5 mich ultra

10 half gallons vodka, 6 half gallons crown royal, 2 half gallons jack daniels, 3 half gallons captain morgan

moscato & rodeo red (6 each of the biggest bottles)

mixers: coke, Diet Coke, 7up, cranberry, oj, pineapple, club soda

we spent about $1400 for everything. We had a ton of pop left over but the alcohol was pretty dead on. Hope this helps

There might be some stores who can help you with deciding how much to buy. There is a Total Wine store near me that we have a meeting with this Sunday. They will be helping us figure out how much we need. The bartenders we are using (Pour Guys) can also help determine the amount to buy.

I know right? we've pretty much decided on a half keg of lite beer, a half keg of regular and a few bottles of liquor. We'll have some water bottles and diet and regular pepsi. I may make some punch for the kids there too
