how much alcohol??

Michelle, on May 25, 2016 at 11:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

So I am expecting 130 guests. And out of that 130 I am assuming about 100 will drink. I am giving the option of wine and beer. And I was wondering how much alcohol I will need. The meal that is being served is barbecue.. so I am assuming most people will want to drink beer. I am sure there are probably calculators for this but I wanted to know if any of you have experience with about this many guests? Any tips or anything?

Thank you!

Use a calculator. Only you know your guests. The calculators will give you an idea of how much to get and in what proportion.

Use a calculator or find a store that will help you out. My caterer suggested a store that does that then suggested I give them the list so that can advise on their experiences. Also the store I will be using will refund anything that we don't open, so maybe your can find a place that does that, it can take some of the pressure off. Also sometimes people who don't normally drink will have a couple at a wedding.

We had 120 guests and served BBQ. We went through 2 kegs and 12 bottles of wine. Most people who didn't like beer only had one glass of wine and then bought their own cocktails.

Have you asked the caterer? Mine has a list of what they think we will need.

    All of the alcohol.

But seriously, are the drinkers big drinkers? Will it be hot/outside? Most calculators tell you to expect 1-2 drinks per guest per hour, but in my case, I doubled it since they're all drinkers.

This is a good guide - but you have to know your guests.

For example - if your guests are mostly like me and boozy baker - you should buy a lot more booze - wine for me please!

2 drinks per person for the first hour, and then 1 drink per hour per person after that. If you have some heavy and some light drinkers they will average out to be about this. A bottle of wine can pour about 6 glasses.

Are you hiring a bartender to serve? If not, you should. A bartender will pour proper amounts and help keep you on track with your drink calculator estimates. Plus they can keep track if someone needs to be cut off.
