how much alcohol to buy for 125 guests?

Judi, on September 22, 2016 at 5:38 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

One of my prospective venue (will make final decision on 10/9 after all venues are visited) allows only wine, beer (bottles and cans only), and one signature cocktail that i have to premix and they dole out.

I have about 125 adults (though how do I calculate how many drink?)

Would about 250 beer bottles and 30 bottles of wine and a couple of gallons of spiked apple cider be enough? that's 2-3 beers pp (3 if not everyone is a beer drinker) and 4 people to a bottle.

Would Trader Joe Wine (2buck chuck) look cheap? I'm not a drinker so IDK but there is always a bottle or 2 at family parties and no one complains. the bartender will be serving so many wont even see the label anyway.

Creating your own label with your wedding date and putting it on the bottles would be cool

    I think it's 3 Buck Chuck now...

Anyhoo, I don't think it's enough. I'm judging by my own crowd, many of which are heavy drinkers, but I don't think anyone would be happy to be limited to one or two bottles of beer the whole evening, or one or two glasses of wine.

There are alcohol calculators online, if you use the google.

Yeah jamelia that would be easy enough to do. at $3 or $4per bottle its just a low cost option that i have heard is pretty darn good.

I just noticed I did my math backwards...

that's enough beer for 2 beers each and everyone and a glass of wine each person.. (maybe I should double the wine estimate?)

I'm doing this now so I know about how much to add to the venue cost when making the decision BTW

That seems a bit low, unless you have a substantial amount of people who don't drink. I actually did go through my guest list and counted out the ones who didn't drink, because we had quite a few.

You definitely would need more of the cider. For wine, use a boxed wine like Bota or Black Box - a 3L box is the equivalent of 4 .75L bottles. It comes out to be cheaper than buying bottles, it's good quality, and the bartender should be able to put it in decanters so that it looks nice.

@rebecca - actually I googled as PP suggested and the evite drink calculator does adjust for light/average/heavy drinkers and calculates based on how long the party is and what you're serving.

My beer estimate was correct, I was slightly low on wine (its suggests 48 bottles) and i grossly underestimated the hard alcohol for the signature drink...

I don't know besides what has already been suggested with the calculator online, I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in that 3 buck chuck is actually pretty damn good wine! I get the Rosé all the time as my go to.

That sounds like enough beer but definitely not enough wine or cider. I would double both of those.

They have a very restrictive alcohol.policy.

I could only serve ONE liquor which is why I'm calling it a signature drink.

ETA: thank God my bridal party doesn't drink or this would have been a no go!
