How many wine glasses, beer glasses, etc do I need?!

FutureMrs.White, on April 8, 2016 at 5:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

Hi everyone!

I'm hoping you can give me some advice on how much glassware, plates, etc that I need! We are hoping for 75 guests at the reception (inviting 90). I feel like most of our friends are beer drinkers but we will have wine as well. Our venue is letting us provide our own alcohol with no corkage fee, we just have to have someone licensed to serve. NBD.

My dilemma is I really don't want to rent 75 wine glasses if I don't have to! I'm thinking we will use plastic cups for the beer that is served out of the keg. We also want to do a champagne toast with glass champage glasses so I will have to get at least 75 of those as well.

Should I rent stuff for 90 or 75? I really hope 90 don't show up as the venue fits 75 comfortably. Our venue is almost 2 hours away from home, you have to take a ferry to get there and we also have a lot of OOS family on the list. Sorry this is so long! It is my first post and feels really good to type out lol!

This all depends on your bar service- will bartenders be cleaning dirty glasses on site? Typically you should get a fresh glass for every drink, many people even just leave their glass and go for another so I would say you need more than your guest count

Do you want real glasses? You can probably purchase plastic wine glasses from Dollar Tree. Do you know how much per glass it is to rent them? If your guests need to keep their glass all night then I would make a sign for the bar.

That is a really good point! I kinda forgot about that part. I would definitely rather have more than enough glasses than run out too :/

I want real glasses for the wine and champagne glasses. The champagne glasses I have found to rent are about .35 each. I think the wine were just a little bit more.

I'm not too worried about the cost, just having to clean them and pack them up at the end of the night before we exit the venue. We are hiring a wood fried pizza food truck for our caterer, they haven't responded to me yet on if they provide plates and silverware. I know they for sure won't provide any glassware.

Your bartender should be able to help you in figuring out how many glasses and what kind to get. Personally, unless you have a full bar with a soap sink, a sanitizer sink and a rinse sink available, I would get plastic. Plan on 9 glasses per person (for a regular 1 hour cocktail hour and 4 hour reception). Use the same sized glass for beer and wine (your bartender should know how to pour). Your rental numbers shouldn't need to be final until your RSVP's are back, but your quote should be based on actual number of people invited.

And you are brave for inviting more people than your venue can comfortably hold. I hope you have 15 people decline.

Thanks Brandy, that is great advice. I think I will definitely seek some more input from our bartender when we hire one.

I haven't finalized the guest list yet, I may have to remove a few people for peace of mind!
