How Many Slow Songs?

bridetobe, on March 6, 2016 at 7:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

I like slow dancing way more than party dancing, same with a lot of guests. How many slow/fast songs are you having? I'm averaging 15 songs an hour... reception is 7-8 dinner then dancing until 11 so 45 songs ish total? I just realized that I need to have the list to the DJ in two weeks.

Are you creating your playlist and just having your DJ play it? Or are you just providing a must play list along with some ideas of what you like? If you trust your DJ, I say select a few songs that have the right dinner tone and a few you'd like to dance to. He can make the judgement call as to when and how many based on the flow of the event and your guests reactions.

I would leave it up to the DJ other than your planned slow dances. I didnbt give a strict number, but obviously told him which songs I wanted for our first dance, father/daughter dance, etc. There were a couple of slow songs I wanted to hear, but I left the rest up to him. They know their stuff when it comes to reading the vibe of the crowd

Why are you having to provide a list to the DJ? That's their job. Just let him/her know what you're looking for and let them take r from there!

They have a list online where I can put requests and no plays. We're country people and if there is goign to be a slow song, we want it to be one of the songs we love. So in the request list, I'm putting slow songs, but if i put 15 slow songs, doesn't mean i want them all played, just means that these are the songs I'd like them to choose from, ya know? I don't wanna put all 15 of the songs we love and then them play slow songs the whole night.. i trust that he won't do that, but i don't want him to see the list and be like okay, slow songs all night

As few as possible, is my advice. Last wedding I went to (and could stay for the dancing-- the one after that was my baby brother, who kindly invited my kids, but by the time the dancing started, they were *done* ) it seemed all fast dances and the floor was packed the whole time. Slow dances are only good for couples, and not even all couples.

Part of the djs job is to read the energy of the crowd. Give them your play/do not play and let the rest of the magic go from there.

I agree with PPs. Give the DJ a list of potential slow songs should he decide to play slow songs. He'll get a feel of the crowd and decide whether to play just a few, or all of them.
