How many seats to a table?

Virginia, on June 14, 2019 at 1:56 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12

our venue's tablesHow many seats to a table? 1

So my venue is a fairly large space (holds 250) but we are having an intimate wedding (75 guests). Typically, they set the tables with 8 seats but I feel like there will be too much empty space. Has anyone done a wedding where each table seats 6? I feel like I would rather more tables. What do you think?

Mine is ten. 8-10 I think is the norm. I can imagine 6 because usually 8-10 does feel cramped

We have 86 guests and we have a couple of tables with 6 people. Our venues tables normally seat 8-12. Most of ours have around 8-10 people but we do have a couple on the smaller side.

This depends on the size of tables the venue has. If they have like 60" round tables, I think 6 would be good. But if they have the bigger 72" tables, it may look too spaced out between guests.

It depends how big the tables are. I think we have 5 feet tables and we're putting 8 at each table. If you have a bigger table than that, I definitely wouldn't try to only put 6, but a 5 foot table should be ok for 6. Our venue could definitely hold a lot more people if we squeezed them together, but we're going to spread them out, put some standing cocktail tables by the bar, and a dance floor to help fill the space.

Our venue had 2 different sized tables. One size seated 6-8, one size seated 10-12. We actually waited until we had our final guest list, then made our seating chart, and then based on that chose how many people to put at which table, and chose how many of which sized tables to get.

We ended up having 3 of the big tables (my family was 11 people and all wanted to sit together, then a group of 11 family friends, and then we had 4 families of 3 people each who we thought would all get along so we gave them a table of 12). I think the majority of our tables had 7-8. Very few had 6... the ones that had 6 were all families that had 6 people. The tables with our friends were all 7-8.

But this is just my experience. Had we had more guests, fewer guests, or even different guests, the entire seating arrangement would've been different.

I would honestly forget about this issue for a while if I were you! Wait until you have your final guest list and then see what works best for the group you have!

Our venue has two sizes of tables. I would ask what the size is and go from there. Is the tables are too large and only have 6 people it might look awkward. Your coordinator should be able to offer good advice. They can also spread them out a bit because often times they are too close together anyway. Good luck.

Based on that picture I'd do 6 per table. The 8 feels crowded and no reason for that with your count.

That photo actually has the table set for 9. So, if you eliminate one of those place settings, and reconfigure the space on the table, I think it would be very comfortable with 8. I think with only 6, there is too much space at the table.

Are tables are 5 ft tables and I'm planning to have 6-7 per table so people are comfortable and not too crowded. We are not having a seating chart. I think 6 per table would be fine

Ok so I asked....three size options in the round 60” 67” and 72”. They also have rectangular in 6’ and 7’ lengths. We are blending a family so we don’t want a sweetheart table but for all 5 of us to sit together at the head of the party. I would want to use a rectangular table for that. How many people are usually seated on each side of a 6’ rectangle?

There will be a similar guest count at my wedding. Our venue is doing 6 tables of 6, 4 tables of 10, and our sweetheart table. 6 to a table will be perfect!

I agree with this. Even if the tables are the larger ones people need elbow room and they would appreciate the space. I know I would.
