How many people won't come?

Rachel Elizabeth, on October 6, 2017 at 1:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 35

Our potential guest list is currently at almost 200 I need it closer to 120 150ish. But we are getting married on a Monday and everyone invited is out of state. I have family strewn across Texas, Cali, Alaska, Maine, and Pennsylvania invited.

Only invite the number of people you can host. What are you going to do if all 200 say they'll be there? Rescind their invite? There goes that relationship...

Cut your guest list to a number you can afford. What in the world would you do if you invited 200, could only afford 120 and 180 came? Awkward!

I had a 95% acceptance rate, so if that happens your looking at 190. There is no way to predict this.

I can hold all 200 in the venue and could feed them. It will be a bit tight though. The limitation is more on 200 feeling like a TON of people.

Average attrition rate on a wedding is 15-20% but given that your date is a Monday you are probably looking at a much higher rate - nothing is guaranteed so don't invite more than you can afford. Also, be mindful of your contractual minimum.

ETA: given that there are a lot of potential OOT guests, you should consider sending a STD sooner than later if you haven't already.

Always plan as if everyone will come

We invited 220 (including children) and had about 125 come but we budgeted for 200

I'm the UO. I invited 280. 150 are coming. Most of the ones not coming live OOT. But we both have large families that we see every year (so it's not like they are people we don't have relationships with) but we knew that many would not come. In fact, I was expecting 175.

Just invite the number of people you can properly host. Typically your entire guest list won't show up, but if they did you want to be prepared for it. I think the statistic is between 10-15% usually don't show up, but that changes based on many factors. All of our guests (including family) are out of town guests and we expect 30% of the guest list not to show up, but we're ready to host them all if they show!

We invited 103 and 80 are have RSVP'd. But we are planning on all 100 coming just in case. I would rather have enough of everything than run out.

You can never predict who will or will not show up. Just invite the number of guests you can afford (that the venue can also comfortably hold).

I wouldn't travel to a wedding where I was being served Chipotle for dinner. Just sayin'.

There is no way to guess how many people will come to your wedding based on other people. There is no 'acceptance' statistic. It is only what happens with your wedding vs. someone elses. If you have a venue cap or a financial cap of 150, you should only have invited 150. If you invited 200, you need to be prepared that 200 will come.

Only invite what you can afford and what your venue will hold. We invited 180 and we had 164 RSVP and come.
