How many of each type of beer?

Juwel, on May 11, 2021 at 11:09 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6

We're doing a beer & wine bar and I'm calculating how much we will need based on about 50 drinking guests. My concern is with the beer...

We're offering:

Truly Lemonade variety

Sam Adams

Blue Moon

Budweiser

Coors Lite

Based on the numbers, I feel like there won't be enough of each kind? Worried we'll run out too fast of popular choices. I'm curious if anyone has experience with this happening or have any advice? Thank you!

I would probably cut down on the beer options, honestly. I would do the Truly, Coors Light, and either the Sam Adams or Blue Moon. Easier to plan when you have less varieties you have to buy.

I'm not a beer drinker so I know nothing about the beers you've chosen BUT I agree you have too many options. If you want to play it safe, choose one full strength, one half strength, and a third of your choosing at the most.

If it helps, we had 106 guests and had 4-5 beer selections (Bud Light, Ying Ling, Miller Lite, IPA). Worked out great and surprisingly most of our guests had White Claw ❤️

I actually think your selection looks great, well rounded and something for a variety of taste, so I wouldn’t change that.

We looked at our guest list and tried to calculate what people liked the most based on what we knew people drank. For example we knew we had a huge crowd of IPA drinkers, so we got extra cases of those. We had a heavy drinking crowd and REALLY didn’t want to run out, so we just erred on the side of overbuying, and just made sure to choose options we knew we liked, or close friends and family liked, so we could drink or donate the extras. As long as you treat them right, they won’t go bad any time soon (ie keep them out of the sun and the leftovers should be absolutely fine to work your way through over the next year . We had a casual open house type brunch the day after the wedding so we’re able to get rid of some “extras” that way too.
We had 2 IPA options (one common, one local), a pilsner, a summer wheat, a cider, and Bud light . I don’t feel like we had too much selection at all. The only thing we ran out of was the fancy IPA option, but that wasn’t an issue because we still had plenty for the IPA drinkers (we only had one case of the funky craft one and like 4 cases of the regular), and I know some friends certainly just tried it for the novelty (so it was a thing they wouldn’t want more than one of). We had 125 guests and did serious damage. The only thing we had a lot leftover of was the wheat— just wasn’t a huge seller in our crowd, we had 2 cases of it but probably could’ve gotten away with just 1 case. If anything this option was the “option too many” because I’m sure people tried one and loved in to something else, but that’s not a problem in my world ! This was the only beer that the leftovers stuck with us for more than a couple months, but still I don’t regret having had it available !

Meant to also say: don’t feel like it’s necessary to have the same quantity of each option , and if there’s one you know your guests love, get extra! Worst case scenario you bring the leftovers to the next party Smiley winking
