How many of each dessert should I have for the dessert table?

C & K, on April 8, 2015 at 4:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

We will have a dessert table at the reception, since we know not everyone loves cake. I was thinking of doing 3 different desserts and a 4-tier cake (minus the cake top for us to save for 1st anniversary). One of the dessert options will be gluten-free cupcakes (because I know of one guest who has celiac disease). I will also do a mini fruit pizza bar (small sugar cookies with cream cheese frosting and choices of fruit toppings), and lastly I was thinking donuts from my favorite donut shop in town. There will also be a Cambodian dessert that is the last course for the sit down dinner. With that in mind, and the cake, how many pieces of the other desserts should I have for 200 guests? I don't want to go overboard and have lots of leftovers.

Is a bakery making any of them? they would be able to help you estimate it better than me. are you assuming not everyone will take a piece of cake? so are you ordering a cake for 100 people? I would have probably 100 servings of each of the others. that's an obstacle with multiple desserts: a lot of people will want to try all of them. we had extra cake but served it at the brunch the next morning which was a huge hit. I think my estimate above is on the conservative side. good luck!

I have nothing to add here except that the fruit pizza idea is LITERALLY the best thing I've heard today. Great idea.

What I always go with is that most guests are going to want to try one of each. So I am wondering how small the donuts will be. When I have been looking at cupcakes for my wedding I have been counting for 1.5/guest. Some wont eat any and some will want more then 1(which I am the person who wants more)

I love to bake, so I will make the cake and mini fruit pizzas myself. The fruit pizzas have been a huge hit and very frequent requests for parties. I've always made them in 16" or 12" pies, so for the wedding, I will just use a round cookie cutter to make mini pies. As for the cupcakes and donuts, I would get them from bakeries/shops. The shops only make them in standard sizes for cupcakes and donuts.
