How many items are on your registry?

Amanda, on September 9, 2016 at 3:19 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

I don't know if I have too many or not enough because I don't know what the average number of items is! How many items are on your registry?

We have 21. FH was keen on a honey fund or just assuming we'd get money because of his culture. I shot that down real fast lol. We registered for little things for those that wish to give a physical gift. We are having a DW.

I've heard the formula "two gifts per guest" but I could never think of that many and many on here have said the same. There are other charts floating around that all say different things. I think more important than quantity is that you have items in several price points. Think of it like a pyramid- keep most things under $40, then less $40-75, even less $75, and fewest at highest price.

We don't live together yet so we don't have any of the normal stuff you would need to register for. Right now we have about 150 things on two registries, with about 80 guests invited. I'm worried it's too many things. Especially because we put single items like ladles and spatulas on the list... I honestly didn't really know what to put on the registry. Even the lists on Pinterest didn't help much because a lot of the things listed were things we wouldn't have use for... Ugh, I just don't want people to see it and be like "wth?" And think we're totally clueless weirdos (even though we are lol)

I think we have like 250 items between our two registries. We registered for each dish separate as well as towels and washcloths. Those are like 40 of our items. We are having 150 people.

Amanda- I wouldn't worry about having those little things you mention. An aunt may want to buy all those serving things and a holder to put them in, you know? I really enjoy making baskets or doing a theme gift so I'd personally love all those little things to bring something together.

I agree with Kimberly C. It's not a big deal if it's a lot of little things.

We have two registries, one with 40 items the other with about 55. But some items are sets like a box of dish ware settings (4 plates, 4 saucers, 4 cups, 4 bowls) or towels in sets of 4 for bath, washcloth, or hand towel, because who registers for just 1 or 2 towels?

I think it's a good idea to have a good range of price points from $20 to $200.

I made a stupid mistake, I listed a 12 piece pot & pan kit from Target (about $120) and thinking that was kinda high I decided to put a 2 piece frying pan set ($25) on the list as well thinking at least I could hope for one or the other to replace my one very sad pot and wretched pan.

So, what happened? I received both sets at my shower. I'm thankful of course. But I now realize I have 5 frying pans and a very small kitchen. (And very poor cooking skills). My fault for including both sets and thinking it was a choice between a high priced item or a low priced item. Nope--a registry just says: this is a guide to needed items. Btw, my mom got me both items. Perhaps a 'learn to cook--better-- hint'.

Conventional wisdom says 2 gifts per guest. Whatever you do, make sure you have a variety of items at different price points so people won't feel lie they can't afford your registry. Also, if you only register for cheap stuff, people will also side eye. (At least in my area; our shower was last weekend and we honestly only got fine china and crystal with only a few other things here and there. I was shocked to say the least).
