How many hours of photography do you think is best?

My mom (who's paying for photography) thinks that 6 hours of photography is more than enough. Our ceremony & reception will be from 5pm-11pm, so 6 hours total for that. And I know that the photographers will be there while we are getting ready before the wedding too, so that will take up at least an hour or two of the 6 hours of the photography package. My mom thinks that the photographers won't need to be there after the cake cutting and that for the last part of the night it will just be people dancing drunk and we don't need pictures of that (lol). Is she right?? Or should we spring a little more for the full 8 hours with the 2 photographers. I am respecting her opinion since she's paying for it, but I just want to make sure that we're making the right decision. How many hours do you think are best?

We are having our photographer for 9-10 hours. The people dancing and being drunk is what we are most looking forward to seeing. I would definitely spring for the extra hours.

I think you definitely need 2 hours before your ceremony and they can leave around 930 or 10 because after a certain point you will get the same pictures over and over again.

We have 9 hours. This covers getting ready, ceremony, cocktail hour pictures, reception, and our exit. It was important for our photographers to capture us leaving.

I had mine for almost 6 hr. However it depends on how many guests and time of day the wedding occurs.

6 hours would definitely NOT be enough time for me. We had our photographer for 8 hours and I wish I had her for 10! 8 is standard in my area. We did first look pictures, and there's no way we could have gotten everything I wanted (getting ready, detail pics, first look, ceremony, portraits, reception, etc.) in just 6 hours.

Talk to your photographer, every photographer is different and they know best how much they can do with time.

My photographers requires to be there a minimum of 2 hours before the wedding (for getting ready shots, bridal party shots, etc.) but she suggested we not keep her there the last hour of the reception (since we're not having a send of) because she says all the events have been over with and I'll just get pic of lots of people dancing. So, it's really different for everyone.
