How many hours for photographer?

Lauren, on December 4, 2019 at 2:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hey ladies! I’m hoping to get some insight here on how long y’all are having the photographer at your wedding. The photographer we’re looking at has a package with 8 hours or a package with 12 hours and there’s a 400 dollar price different there. So! What are y’all doing and why?

Depends on the flow of your wedding but 8 hours should be sufficient.

We are having our photographers come for getting ready, the ceremony and 1/2 of the reception. We are not doing a grand exit at the end of the night.

I was originally thinking 8 as well but we decided to do a photographer for 6 hours and a videographer for 8 hours. The package we're looking at doesn't have anything less than 8 hours for video which is fine.

We decided 6 hours because although it's only a 2 hour difference, we didn't think it was necessary that long and also because it's cheaper. We definitely want more than 4 hours because prep will probably be 2 hours, ceremony and cocktail 1.5 hours and we want to make sure that we get enough time to still get toasts/speeches and show a little fun.

My wedding is about 4 hours with ceremony included. I have my photographer from 3:30-7. My ceremony starts at 5,intiate dinner to start 6-8:30. I also have a videographer with my photo package that starts at 4pm-7. At 3:30 my photographer will be taking shoe, dress, and ring pictures. At 3:50-4:30 I will be doing bridal shots and my immediate family shots. Then my Fh family shots till ceremony time at 5-5:30. Followed by after ceremony romantics and family pictures. Then Dinner 6-7pm pictures of first dance, cutting the cake and pictures of the room. I think ill get more than enough shots with the time frame I have. I personally think 8 hours should cover you if you are looking for prep pictures, bridal shots, bridal party shots, family, ceremony, romantics and reception.

I don't know how long you wedding is, but 8hr will be sufficient for us, even for getting ready pictures and all.

I had 10.5 hours of coverage with a second photographer for 3 hours at the start of the reception. I don't know if we really needed the getting ready photos, but I'm glad I had her there through the end of the reception since she was able to capture H and his friend's epic dance fight. Smiley xd 12 hours definitely seems like a lot and probably not necessary.

We did 8. I don't think 12 is necessary really unless you feel they need to take pictures from the very start of your day. Which honestly they might get bored. 4 more hrs tacked on seems insane to think about for what they can accomplish in 8.

I am a photo junkie, so having someone there all day was super important to me. For me the wedding isn't just about FH and I, but about our two families coming together. So the getting ready photos (BM are mostly family then my three besties who we consider family), were extremely important to me. But I also wanted someone who would be there through most of the reception because we love dancing. I lucked out and found a photographer who would cover the whole day, from the moment I tell him to be there until we leave on the party bus. He also happened to be cheaper than anyone else I found, and I LOVE his work.
