How many guests actually show up?

Alyssa, on April 10, 2018 at 1:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 19
Hey all!! This may seem like a stupid question, but I’ve heard so many different things.. We are inviting around 350 people to our reception and my family keep telling me about half show up, what is everyone else’s experience with this?

There’s really no way to predict this, there’s too many factors.

Wow! That's a lot of people. I've heard 20% decline rates are pretty average, but it really depends on your location, date, and guests. I don't think I've ever heard of a 50% decline rate unless it was a destination wedding.

We're expecting about a 10% decline rate and we invited 154.

It doesn't matter what others have experienced, plan for everyone to show up until you have to turn on your final numbers

We sent out 67 invites and have gotten back 35 RSVPs. We have had one decline so far. Be prepared for all 350 guests to show up, you can't predict people's responses.

It really depends. At my friends wedding, every. single. guest. RSVP'd yes, and there was not a single no-show.

Definitely plan for every person you've invited to show up. You can probably expect about 20% to not show up, but you need to be prepared to accommodate everyone you invite.

Plan on every invited guest to show. That's the only way to make sure you have enough space, food, drink, etc.. If you can't budget for all 350, then cut the guest list.

No way to tell how many people will accept vs decline, We have our invites out now and so far only 8 have declined, 115 yes and theres still 102 we are waiting to get back. We planned for every guest to come so we can properly host everyone.

Plan on all of them showing. One of my girls had 96% attendance in the middle of a michigan winter. It happens.

Some people have 100% accept. I'm praying for somewhere around 70-80%

We invited 85, 80 accepted. I've never heard that half of guests decline. I really wouldn't bank on that.

Definitely no way to tell! Plan for all of them until you start receiving RSVPs back.

I am having a destination wedding, and I did a very casual initial poll before sending any invites out on who could make it. About 20 percent I thought couldn't make it as most of our guests have children or have never left the US or told me they prob could not make it, and I was told way less would come for a destination wedding. Now that the invites went out people who I thought couldn't come are telling me they are coming or already rsvped. Definitely everyone that I attended their weddings are coming to mine. You have a really big number, and probably not all 350 are going to come, but I would definitely plan for 350. I would only invite the number of guests you are comfortable with and not count on people not showing up.

Why would this matter? You should expect all guests to show up.

ALWAYS expect everyone to show. The average is 20% will not show, but there is absolutely no way to predict it. 100% may show. I have never heard of 50% not showing.

I would not be too head strong on that 50% number. We invited 144 and we figure about 110-120 would show but we fully intent to serve 144. You should base your guest list off the amount of people you can afford . I haven’t gotten numbers back yet because it’s a little early so I’m in the stage where I just “feel like” X or Y people will rsvp “no”. But again, that’s nothing more than a feelings and I won’t know until I get numbers back.
