How many glasses do I need?

Lysandra, on August 14, 2017 at 1:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

I apologize if this has been asked a million times but I'm on mobile and can't search. I'm expecting probably 180 people. We are doing beer, wine, 2 signature drinks, lemonade, water, iced tea, hot chocolate/coffee, and possibly an apple cider sangria (I thought it might be cool to do since my wedding is in October). There will be wine and water glasses on the tables. The beer will be in bottles and I'm getting coffee cups for the hot drinks. My question is how many cups should I get for everything else? It isn't really in my budget to get a bunch more cups per person but I also don't want to run out. Would the hard plastic cups be a better idea for the mixed drinks and lemonade/iced tea? It's an outdoor semi formal wedding if that matters.

Our caterer only provides plastic China and plastic silverware. We have to rent everything from somewhere else. Including real China if we decide to do that instead.

I'm kinda leaning towards the glasses just because the wine and water glasses are real glass and I have guests coming from out of state so I really want to make it as nice as possible but I just can't afford to rent a ton more glasses. Would it be tacky to maybe have a sign on the bar asking people to reuse their glass?

The closet ikea is about an hour away but I have no problem making a trip there.

Hard plastic is fine, and figure on four per person.

My bartender and I decided on an estimate of 5 drinks per person. We have wine and water glasses on the table. I just purchased 1,000 clear plastic cups. It's probably more than enough, but it cost like $50 total so I don't care.

There are calculators for this online too. Search for one that will tell you how much alcohol to have and a lot of them tell you how many glasses to get. You'll want to figure a couple per person per hour for bar drinks. The table set items you can do one per person with a few extra for mishaps. We had 55 guests and had 100 plastic cups for lemonade and iced tea (there were 30 left over), 60 irish coffee glasses for dessert time, 70 rocks glasses for our featured cocktail, 60 wine glasses for table set, 60 water glasses for table set, 150 wine glasses for wine at the bar, beer was served in the bottle. I can't say if we used all these but this made the most sense to the caterer for the amount of guests we have.

I'd do hard plastic, it's definitely nice enough and cuts down on cost a bit! I'd think 4 cups per person (for the full 180) and don't cut that number down even though not all 180 will attend.

I think its fine to do the hard plastic ones! They sell them at Party City but I would try to buy in bulk at BJs or online, it will probably be cheaper.
