How Many (extra) Invitations should i order?

futurmrslowe, on August 2, 2018 at 2:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

I'm waiting on the final proofs from my graphic designer and trying to figure out how many invitations / extra invitations I should order. I have 85 invitations to mail (includes one for my photographer for details shots but does not include keeping one for myself so I need at least 86.

I was thinking 90 (how many extras could I possibly need - we're already inviting at the capacity of the room. But the unit prices change significantly at 100, so if I ordered 100 -- it only costs about $7 more. (95 is like $30 more).

What the heck am I gonna do with like 14 extras? But only 4 extra makes me nervous! Hence the dilemma!

I only ordered 2 extra and ended up ordering 3 more, only 40 people at the wedding total. I wanted a copy and a copy for my host to keep as well though

I think our designer gave us 10 extras. And the only reason we needed any extras is because I messed up one of the guests addresses that we had printed so I needed a blank envelope and on one envelope the font made someone’s address hard to read so I had to write out another one. I assembled one to keep for us and one because my mom wanted one. That’s it. I would say order five. You’re more likely to need additional envelopes than entire invitations.

She included extra envelopes with my STDs - so I figured there'd be a few extra of those (plus she's printing guess addresses on the outer envelopes).

My mom says she doesn't want one lol -- she'll find it when she cleans out my grandma's house someday lol.

I wanted to have 10 extra, but wound up ordering 25 because that's the increments they came in. I did also get 25 extra envelopes, and that really was the only thing that I actually used a lot of the extras (I hand-addressed my envelopes).

Mine also had to be hand-assembled (gluing layers together and into a pocket), so it was nice to have some wiggle room for the few that I messed up.

I ordered 10 extra and I am super happy I did because people either lost them or we told some other people to come that we didn't originally have in the plan Smiley smile

Curious, what is the total price for 85, 90, 95, 100 invitations.. (I really don't need to know, but Is it like 85 = $100, 95 = $130 and 100 = $107) Perhaps that could help make the decision? I mean, 15 extra is never a bad thing if it's only $7, right?

Not including postage, 85 is about $577, 90 is $614 and 100 is $620. Ordering 95 is actually $650! I already know postage is another $150+ (though I still have a few stamps left from STDs that I can use for response envelopes).

I only ordered 10 extra (I ordered kind of early to take advantage of a sale) and I think I only have 3 left. A few people were added (by FFIL) which is fine, but I would have ordered more had I known earlier.

I ordered 10 extra and we used all but two. Especially make sure you’re getting extra envelopes. Lots of our guests moved and didn’t tell us so we are getting there’s returned and we are almost out of blank envelopes...

Love your invites! I'd just order the 14 extra. They might get lost in the mail, and it's only an extra $7.

I would get the 100, what happens if one is return to sender and you need to mail one back out - especially if it is damaged in some way? or you find out someone did not receive theirs at all for some reason? Plus both your mother and your FMIL may want a copy as a keep sake. Plus then you can bring one to you for details shots and not have to worry about if it gets packed back up or not or getting damaged in the process and leave one at home as the safe keep sake.

I personally think its better safe than sorry and if the extra 100 is only 7$ then its not the end of the world.

We needed 88 and ordered 100.

So far we've used one of the extra ones to re-address an envelope. I'm not sure we'll use the others, but, I like the piece of mind.

I need 81 invites, I'm ordering 100. I like having extras for us to keep, the photographer/videographer to use without being my copy, and if any get lost in the holiday mail I will have backups for people who really want it. I'd rather have more than I need than not enough and the cost for 90 or 100 were only slightly different. Minted recommended I order 100, 81 with addresses printed and 19 blank.

Is it cheaper to order 100 vs the 90 or 95?? If it is, then do that. You can always throw out the extras if you don't end up using them.

Order the 100. I always recommend ordering 10% extra as a buffer (and rounding as needed).

You never know if some will get lost in the mail or if you will mess up when filling out the envelopes. The extras can also be given to parents as a keepsake if they desire (so it is fresh and hasn't gone through the mail). It is always better to be safe than sorry. Just imagine how much more expensive it will be if you find out after you order that you need more.

We also ordered 10 extra and I am glad I did. I would say since there is a price break to just order the 100. You may not need them but you’ll kick yourself if you don’t and then end up needing five for whatever reason.

I would definitely order 100. I was shocked at how many extras I needed. Granted, I had some wiggle room for additional guests which came up, but I ended up only ordering 10-15 extra, and then when I ordered more I had to pay the higher price break because I ordered a lower quantity Smiley sad

We were mailing out 48 invitations total, but ordered 60... which now in hindsight was a bit excessive, especially since they actually sent us 65 invitations (they send 5 extra just in case any were damaged with ink or spots)... we totally could have gotten away with ordering 50 total (making it 55 with their 5 extra policy, which we did not know about beforehand. Nice gesture of them doing that, but now I have 17 extra invitations that I have no idea what to do with lol).
